Salary Cap Space Gets A Huge Boost In Madden 21

How much salary cap space an NFL team has can make or break whether you pick them in your franchise mode. It can also impact the composition of your team for years to come.

Some teams, like the Philadelphia Eagles, are in a terrible cap situation especially heading into year 2 of a franchise.

Luckily for fans of the Eagles and other teams in cap trouble, EA Sports will be bailing you out a little with a raised salary cap.

The NFL’s salary cap for 2020 is right around $200 million dollars. In Madden 21, your year 1 salary cap will be $210 million dollars giving you an extra $10 million or so to work with.

The benefits don’t stop there.

In Madden 20, the salary cap over 7 years rose $29 million dollars. This year, it will go up $59 million dollars over 7 years meaning the extra additional space you will get in your salary cap each year is more than double what it was last year.

For those interested, here is an article we did last year on how salary cap increased in Madden 20.

We are including the graph from that article below that shows the salary cap increases year over year in Madden 20.

You can see above that in Madden 20, the salary cap goes from $200 million to $229 million by year 7 and then it pretty much flattens out.

In Madden 21, that will go from a starting salary cap in year 1 of $210 million to a salary cap in year 7 of $269 million.

We don’t know yet exactly how the salary cap increases will be distributed year over year, but we expect it to be very similiar to how it has been handled in past Madden games with the bulk of the salary cap increases coming in years 2 and 3 and then it slowly leveling off after that.

This information comes directly from a Madden developer on Twitter.

Our actionable takeaway from this is if you are still looking to select a team in franchise mode, you may not need to shy away from team’s in terrible cap situations.

If you have star players you need to resign early on, you still need to be very aware of the salary cap, but you will have a little more wiggle room than you’ve had in previous Madden games.

How do you feel about the giant increase in salary cap space in Madden 21 franchise mode? Does this impact the teams you are considering for your franchise? Sound off in the comments!

I dislike this idea, as football fans we see our teams cut/ trade guys we love due to cap casualties all the time. To get a bail out really suck imo. Especially because the average user only goes like 2 seasons but for someone like me that goes between 7-12 every year, I look forward to maneuvering the cap or losing guys because I have a big deal coming up
