Playbook: San Francisco 49ers

Formation: Gun Split Close

Play: HB Wheel

Setup:

1. Put the B/O receiver on a drag route
2. Motion the Y/Triangle running back to the left

Reads:

1. The first read on this play is the Y/Triangle running back on the wheel route
2. If that is not there look for the B/O receiver on the drag route
3. Then look for the RB/R1 running back on the table route
4. Finally, find the X/Square receiver on the post over the middle of the field

Overview: This is the base play of the mini scheme because it can beat just about any type of coverage. It also has the chance for a huge play to the running back on the wheel route making it a very powerful play.

Play: Slot Curl

Setup:

1. Put the Y/Triangle running back on a streak
2. Motion the Y/Triangle running back to the left
3. Put the A/X receiver on a drag route
4. Put the B/O receiver on a streak

Reads:

1. The first read on this play is the Y/Triangle running back on the streak
2. Then look for the B/O receiver on his streak up the seam of the field
3. If these are not there check down to the drag route

Overview: Here we are bombing both Cover 3 and Cover 2 defenses with the same exact setup. This play also looks the same as HB Wheel pre-snap so your opponent won’t be able to tell which play you are in before you snap the ball.

Play: Z Spot

Setup:

1. Put the B/O receiver on a streak
2. Motion the Y/Triangle receiver to the left and put him on a slant route

Reads:

1. The first read on this play is the X/Square receiver on the double move
2. Then look for the A/X receiver on the route to the corner
3. If those are not there check down to the Y/Triangle running back on the slant

Overview: This is the man beater of the mini scheme, the double move by the X/Square receiver makes it impossible to run man against this play. The cornerback will be beat every time by that receiver. He should be open unless there is a safety helping over the top.

Formation: Gun Split Close

Play: WR Corner

Setup:

1. Put the A/X receiver on a fade route
2. Put the Y/Triangle running back on a curl

Reads:

1. The first read is the high/low read on the right side of the field to the RB/R1 running back on the table route
2. Then if that is not there hit the B/O receiver on the corner route
3. If those are not there look for the X/Square receiver on the post
4. Finally, find the Y/Triangle running back on the curl or playmaker him to the right

Overview: This play does a great job of beating both Cover 3 and Cover 4 zones. If you make make the correct read, this play can be very difficult to defend.
