Madden 17: Defending I-Form HB Stretch Plays

HB Stretch is one of the most popular running plays you will see in Madden 17.  You need a consistent way to slow the play down otherwise you could be in for a long game.

In this Madden 17 defensive tip, SnA Exclusive goes over the play call he uses to stop HB Stretch plays.

Check it out below.

Madden 17: Stop I-Form HB Stretch Run Plays

Playbook: Any 3-4

Formation: 3-4 Odd/Normal

Play: Cover 4

  1. Base align
  2. Spread LB’s
  3. Crash DL down
  4. Move your weakside safety to the inside of your weakside MLB (see video for positioning)

Overview: In a previous video we showed one way to stop the HB stretch from a shotgun or pistol formation. In today’s video, we are bringing you another good strategy for defending the popular HB Stretch variants from under-center with a lead fullback setting the edge.

The way this play works is your OLB, who is your Force defender, will quickly get past the TE and blow up the run in the backfield, which then allows your other pursuit players to clean up the play for a loss or no gain.

Let’s take a closer look at this play.

This is how the play art should look right before our opponent snaps the ball.

Notice the positioning of our safety.

Right away you can see our defense is all over the run.

We make the tackle in the backfield for about a 2 yard loss.
