Thank you for purchasing the Madden 17 Defensive Lockdown eBook for PlayStation 4 and XBOX One. The eBook will be viewable directly on our website or via our Madden School Unlimited app. This eBook is based out of the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive playbook but many of the plays can be found in other playbooks as well.
Keep in mind this ebook is not supposed to act as an official strategy guide. It is just a collection of tips from our team of professional madden gamers organized in a way that is easy to understand.
Make sure Auto flip defensive playcall is set to off in your settings. I really can’t stress that point enough. It is extremely important.

What recommendation do u guys have to stop drag and double drag routes?
The best way in zone is to go with hard flat zones and a defensive lineman in a qb spy. The best way in man to man defense, is just to move the cornerbacks covering the receivers inside a couple steps before the snap.
Is pass/run commit L2/LT and up or down on the analog stick like previous years?
Thanks!
Yes it still is
Hey guys any ETA on when you think the odd front (3-4, 245, 335, etc) defense tips will be out?
About a week
How do you stop the outside run in this playbook???
Which outside runs?
You expecting to release a 3-4 D book this week ?
Early next week
3-4 playbook?
Nevermind
I’m really practicing the offensive plays and starting to understand sticking with a formation for a while and throwing the defense off. However, my defense stinks. I’ve tried to follow this but all my opponents seems to beat me on the deep ball to Mike Evans, Antonio Brown or Kelvin Benjamin. I have two corners with PS chemistry and two safeties with DD. It’s frustrating. I just won 35-21. I score in two plays and then they come back with a long play with no strategy to it. Also, many opponents like to use the hurry up offense the entire game. I feel this is annoying but I have trouble defending that too. Finally, will you be putting out a Goal Line eBook? Sorry for so many comments but I’m new to Madden and this site and I’m excited to learn!
Yes we will have a new defensive ebook out next week.
Hey guys,
im pretty new to the game. I recognized that the defensive playbook consists out of a lot of blitzes – I basically went the way that i waited for the offensive setup of my opponent and then decided what formation to use:
2WR – 46 Normal or 4-3 Normal
3WR – Nickel Normal
4WR – Dollar 3-2-6
I hadn’t a lot of success with only blitzing – especially with 3 and 4 WR on the field i get smoked – Do you have any tips on what to do better, or are there any goto-coverage plays for passing?
Thanks! 🙂
What it comes down to isn’t so much offensive personnel. It comes down to whether your opponent is blocking his running back or not. If he is blocking a running back, you should go into a max coverage defense. (8 guys in coverage) If he isn’t blocking a running back, then is when you hit him with the blitzes.
Thanks! Is there a way/indicator to see presnap if he might block or run? I guess there is no 100% chance but there are any hints i can read and react?
There isn’t a 100% way but generally if you get a few sacks early, your opponent will start to block an extra guy.
What are the best maybe 3 coverage plays?
It kind of depends on each situation. There aren’t really 3 plays that work best against everything.
Forgive me if this is a silly question but is it advised to memeorize ALL of the plays within EVERY listed formation, or just all the all the plays within a couple different formations?
It is best to just get really comfortable with a few of the plays from a couple formations. Eventually the setups will become second nature to you and at that point you can add in a couple more plays.
