Singleback Y-Trips

Playbook: Philadelphia Eagles

Formation: Singleback Y Trips

Play: Jets 6 Soar

Setup:

  1. Max Protect
  2. In route the outside trips WR
  3. Drag the TE

Reads:

  1. TE over the middle
  2. High low over the middle with the in route and the deep dig
  3. Streak if he has a step on the outside deep third

Overview:  This is my favorite play in the entire playbook. The single WR side dig route is so great because it is slow enough that it will get underneath any deep blue zone that clears out, and it will also be deep enough to get overtop of a shallow yellow zone. The route also kills man, which makes it one of the best routes I’ve seen this year.

Playbook: Philadelphia Eagles

Formation: Singleback Y Trips

Play: Double Post

Reads:

  1. In route the outside trips WR
  2. Block the HB

Reads:

  1. TE over the middle
  2. Single WR C route
  3. In route
  4. Post to the slot WR

Overview:  I like this play because although we have 3 WRs on one side, we are going to bring all 3 of them across the formation and flood the weak side of our formation. We have a nice quick hitter to the TE which is a theme in this offense, and then we also have 2 man beating routes coming across the field along with a deep man beater to the left sideline.

Playbook: Philadelphia Eagles

Formation: Singleback Y Trips

Play: PA Zone Shot

Setup:

  1. Drag/In route the outside trips WR
  2. After hiking, hold RT/R2 to cancel play action

Reads:

  1. Drag quickly or late across the field
  2. Over route to the sideline
  3. Deep post

Overview:  This play is our homerun big hitting play from the Y trips. I like to have one from every formation I run, similar to the Z Spot n Go from Gun Bunch. We have a high low coming across the field, and then our deep post route overtop that can beat any coverage in the game.

Playbook: Philadelphia Eagles

Formation: Singleback Y Trips

Play: HB Stretch

Setup: No adjustments needed

Overview:  This stretch is perfect from this formation because it is an outside run to the strong side, where we have 3 extra blockers fighting to seal the edge and give us the sideline. By stretching the defense horizontally, it also allows us to hit some nice cutback lanes against the flow of the defense. I did not break down this in the video but if we have numbers to the weak side, we can also playmaker the run to that side.

Playbook: Philadelphia Eagles

Formation: Singleback Y Trips

Play: HB Power O

Setup: No adjustments needed

Overview:  This is our inside run from this formation and it really gives us a nice mix-up from our outside HB stretch. This run really excels when it is ran vs a passing defensive set, such as a dollar or 335 look.
