Offensive Attack Update #1

In this update we are going over different ways to beat every common coverage in Madden 17.  Below we cover a few different plays that beat man coverage, cover 2, cover 3, and cover 4.

Man Beaters

Playbook: Denver Broncos

Formation: Gun Doubles HB Wk

Play: Bronco Mesh

Reads:

  1. Your tight end is the first read
  2. The slot receiver
  3. X/square receiver on the left side of screen

Play: Bronco Fk Rub

Reads:

  1. Your tight end (99% of the time)
  2. Slot receiver
  3. B/circle receiver

Play: X Under

Reads:

  1. X/square receiver (wait for him to gain separation then lob pass it and RAC catch)
  2. Slot receiver
  3. (Optional) Hot route the B/circle receiver to a slant or Deep Dig route and have him as your 3rd read

Play: PA Shot Curl Go’s

Reads:

  1. Slot WR

Play: PA Bronco Posts

Reads:

  1. Your tight end
  2. Your slot receiver
  3. B/circle receiver

Play: Double Cross

Reads:

  1. Your tight end
  2. Your running back
  3. Slot receiver
  4. X/square receiver

Overview: The Gun Doubles HB Wk formation from Denver’s playbook has a TON of great plays this year. The video showed some the best plays that beat man coverage.

Keep in mind this isn’t the complete arsenal, you still have stock plays like Corner Strike and Slants that are great for beating press-man coverage and also the X Follow play is great, but these plays are usually my go-to plays for keeping my opponent guessing when playing press man coverage.

Cover 3 Beaters

Playbook: Denver Broncos

Formation: Gun Doubles HB Wk

Play: FL Screen

Reads:

  1. – None, just throw to the B/circle receiver once your QB turns

Play: X Under

Reads:

  1. Read the MLB, if he carries the TE up the seam, hit the X/square WR. If he lets him go, hit the TE on an outside leading pass lead.
  2. You can also read the left outside CB. If he follows the X/square WR in his underneath route, you can hit the Slot WR on his out route.

Play: Slot Post

Reads:

  1. Read the Slot CB. Once he jams the slot WR, pass lead outside to the X/square WR and possession catch every time.

Play: PA Bronco Seams

Reads:

  1. Read the Slot CB. Once he initiates the jam on the slot WR, hit the hitch route.

Play: Double Smash

Reads:

  1. Read the slot CB first, then the outside CB. If you see the slot CB jam the slot WR, look immediately at the outside CB to see if he’s still backpedaling. If he is, hit the hitch WR. If he’s not, wait for the slot WR to break on his corner route and lob it to the sidelines for him.

Play: Short Post

Reads:

  1. Right side of the field you want to read the Slot CB. Once he goes to the flat, hit the dig route.
  2. Left side of the field you want to read the Slot CB as well, as soon as he jams the slot WR, hit the hitch route or throw to the RB.

Overview: In part 2 of the Gun Doubles HB Wk money scheme, there are some very good cover 3 beaters that will move the chains consistently down the field for you against cover 3 looks.

Cover 2 Beaters

Playbook: Denver Broncos

Formation: Gun Y-Trips HB Wk

Play: PA WR In

Setup:

  1. Hot route TE to a seam route
  2. (Optional) Smart route the B WR
  3. (Optional) Hot route RB to block

Reads:

  1. Slot wheel route (looking for cover 3)
  2. B/circle WR on his deep post route
  3. X/square WR on his dig route

Formation: Gun Snugs

Play: Bench

Setup:

  1. – Hot route RB to a hitch
  2. – (Optional) streak a slot WR

Reads:

  1. Read the CB if you’re throwing deep sidelines (if he floats, hit underneath, if he comes up throw over the top)
  2. Read the MLB, if he carries up the seam throw underneath, otherwise throw the seam route

Overview: Cover 2 can be a very difficult defense to beat if you don’t do it correctly and stick to your real football concepts. In this video, there are several concepts on how to beat the cover 2 defense using the deep middle of the field, deep sidelines and short middle of the field, which are all vulnerable areas in a cover 2 defense.

Cover 4 Beaters

Playbook: Denver Broncos

Formation: Gun Y-Trips HB Wk

Play: PA WR In

Setup 1:

  1. Hot route TE to a streak route
  2. (Optional) smart route B/circle WR

Reads:

  1. – B/circle WR on the deep post
  2. – X/square WR on the dig

Setup 2:

  1. Drag the X/square WR
  2. Hot route the B/circle WR to a streak
  3. Hot route the RB to block
  4. Motion the X/square WR in

Reads:

  1. Slot Wheel
  2. X/square WR on the drag
  3. TE on the drag

Setup 3:

  1. Drag the X/square WR
  2. Hot route the B/circle WR to a streak
  3. Hot route the RB to block

It would be great if you did this for each pb. Also, it would be helpful if you talked strategy more in your snooks such as what you might run to force your opponent into a cover 2, cover 3 and then beat him deep.
