Today we are bring you a 5 play mini scheme out of the Near Close formation. Near Close is one of the more popular formations in Madden 17, so we are going over how to run this scheme the right way.
We have 2 really effective running plays, 2 man to man defense beaters, and 1 zone defense beater. When you mix them all together, it is extremely tough for any opponent to stop.

Playbook: Kansas City Chiefs
Formation: Near Close
Play: HB Inside
Setup: None Required
Overview: This is a run play that is very effective when mixed in with the other plays in the formation. It is one of the hardest run plays in the game to stop. The other plays in the formation make it to where the defense cannot sell out for the run leaving big holes open.
Playbook: Kansas City Chiefs
Formation: Near Close
Play: PA Strong Flow
Setup:
- Put the X/square receiver on a drag route
- Block the Y/triangle receiver to cancel the play action
Reads:
- The first read on this play drag route underneath
- The second read on this play is the tight end on the right side
Overview: This play is a really good man coverage beater. These passes mixed in with the runs make up for an unbelievable scheme out of the Near Close formation.

Play: FB Dive
Setup: None Required
Overview: This is one of the best FB dives in the game. With a play like this in the formation, it makes it incredibly hard for the defense to stop. Especially when you start mixing in the passing plays.

Play: Z Spot
Setup:
- Put the X/square receiver on a slant route
- Put the B/circle receiver on a drag route
Reads:
- The first read on this play is the slant and drag combination quick underneath
- The second read on this play is the tight end on the corner route
Overview: This play kills man coverage. With the zone beater and the runs in the formation, opponents will try to switch to man to stop the offense. Having a man beater like this in the arsenal is crucial.

Play: Post Drag
Setup:
- Put the A/X receiver on a slant route
Reads:
- The first read on this play is the running back out of the backfield
- The second read is the B/circle receiver
- The third read are the crossing routes underneath
Overview: This play is the best pass in the formation due to the fact it can beat both man and zone. We will be using it mainly as a zone beater because the combination of the running back out of the backfield and the post over the middle. Together those routes are very hard to stop, especially when the play is mixed in with the rest of the scheme.

Great scheme @madden school. But which formation is better, Strong close or Near Close?? I personally use a strong close scheme that is very effective
Strong Close has more plays, but the toss isn’t near as deadly as it was last year and they eliminated the glitch speed routes. It is still a good formation, but not near as powerful as last year. I prefer the Near Close version in 17.
