Play: Spacing
Setup:
- Hot route your X/square receiver to a slant. You can also hot route him to a fade or a curl depending on the coverage (as shown in the video).
Reads:
- Your primary read on this play is your X/square receiver.
- Your second read is your B/circle receiver on the hitch route.
- Your third read is your RB/r1 receiver in the middle of the field.
Overview: This is the most underrated passing play in the game. It won’t give your big yardage every play but it is very effective. The hitch route tends to get open against almost every zone coverage and if you low ball pass it to him it will be an easy completion against man coverage.
Your X/square receiver is your primary receiver on this play because you can do multiple things with him to exploit your opponents coverage. If it is zone the slant will work, if they play over the top the slant or curl will work, and if they play underneath you can hit him deep on a fade route.
