EA Sports released a big “30 Day” Madden 18 update and game patch. Madden NFL update 1.04 is now available for download on both XBox One and PlayStation 4. This is a major update, much bigger than the first Madden 18 update, and it certainly covers a lot of the game’s problem areas.   • Addressed the issue with players recovering a fumble not being able to be tackled
  • Tuning to decrease Hit Stick and Cut Stick fumbles globally
  • Addressed the issue with receivers assigned to a bubble screen running the incorrect route
  • Addressed an issue where the QB could not dive while scrambling
  • Addressed the issue where the Gun Monster formation was leading to pancake blocks by the offensive line
  • Added several new chemistry abilities to MUT

As you can see, this update addresses issues related to general gameplay and specific game modes. Every game mode, including Longshot, has issues that get addressed in this update.

  • Fixed an issue around the Gunslinger trait sometimes not functioning correctly
  • Fixed the issue with players recovering a fumble not being able to be tackled
  • Addressed issue around the Camera being reset after a kicking play in MUT Squads
  • Fixed exploit around Playmaker mechanic while using Target Passing
  • Fixed issue with receivers on bubble screen running the incorrect route
  • Added timing rumble to kick meter when enabling Accessibility Options
  • Fixed an issue where a user would be unable to call a timeout after the opponent had called a previous timeout
  • Fixed an exploit blitz out of 3-4 Under
  • Fixed an issue where the defense could reset the offense’s ID Mike via Reset Play mechanic
  • Added penalties to users who use the LB/L1 CPU- defensive assist mechanic on Competitive Game style
  • Addressed clock issues in Overtime
  • Tuning to reach tackles attempts by defenders being blocked by receivers
  • Fixed an issue where the QB could not dive while scrambling
  • Added additional thresholds for broken sacks on Competitive Game style
  • Added additional thresholds for hit stick fumbles on Competitive Game style
  • Added additional thresholds for auto-broken tackles on Competitive Game style
  • Added additional thresholds for AI Strip Ball attempts on Competitive Game style
  • Tuning to increase inaccurate throws when using non-QB’s at the QB position
  • Addressed two exploits around receiver-motions that forced defensive backs out of their coverage assignments
  • Addressed issue of receivers freezing at the line in MUT Squads
  • Reduced frequency of Illegal Block in the Back penalties in Simulation Game style
  • Fixed issue where the Gun Monster formation was leading to pancake blocks by the offensive line
  • Fixed issue around fumble recoveries not being tracked correctly in the stats menu
  • Tuning to improve man coverage defenders getting beat deep by slower receivers
  • Tuning to decrease hit stick and cut stick fumbles globally
  • Added a banner that triggers when a player with a “low” catch rating drops a pass or Int
  • Added a banner that triggers when a AI player with high hit power causes a big hit fumble
  • Added a banner that triggers when a AI player with the strip ball trait causes a strip fumble

Final Thoughts & Takeaways

Madden 18 Update 1.04 fixes a ton of issues players had with the new game. 

Aside from the above, update 1.04 also fixes visual issues such as player and coach likenesses for specific coaches and players.

As you can see from the notes above, one of the most noticeable changes you’ll see after this update has to do with banners. Feedback banners will let you know when either the AI players or the User players successfully perform certain moves related to player traits. When you, or the AI, successfully perform a maneuver that triggers a player’s trait, such as Bull Rush Move or Big Hitter, a banner will pop up with feedback.
