Gun Tight Offset TE

Playbook: New Orleans Saints

Formation: Gun Tight Offset TE

Play: Y Out HB Swing

Setup:

  1. Block the running back
  2. Put the A/X tight end on a drag route

Reads:

  1. The first read on the play is the Y/Triangle receiver on the corner route
  2. Then look for the B/O receiver on the post
  3. Finally, you have both drag routes underneath as check downs

Overview: This setup is very quick and allows us to attack any type of defense our opponent throws at us. I like to come out in this play and then we can audible to all the other plays that we use.

  4. Put the B/O receiver on a drag
  5. Motion the Y/Triangle receiver to the right

Reads:

  2. Then look for the tight end on the hitch quick
  3. Next look for the B/O receiver on the drag route going to the left

Overview: This setup is going to be a unique look to our opponent and throw them off. We essentially are getting a bunch look from a tight formation. The streak serving as a clear out will get the post open against nearly any defense.

Play: Y Out HB Swing (Cover 4 Bomb)

Setup:

  1. Block the running back
  2. Put the A/X tight end on an in route and smart route him

Reads:

  1. The main read on this play is the B/O receiver deep on the post
  2. Check down to the drag if the beater is not there

Overview: On this setup we are using it to bomb a Cover 4 defense. The post motioned out by the B/O receiver will just get behind all the coverage. Make sure to use a speedy receiver for the post.

Reads:

  1. The main read on this play is the B/O receiver deep on the post
  2. Check down to the Y/Triangle receiver on the drag

Overview: Here we are going over how to beat a Cover 3 defense in one play. The out route by the X/Square receiver is going to hold down the outside third, leaving the post wide open over top the defense.

Formation: Gun Tight Offset TE

Play: Slot Outs

Setup:

  1. Put the Y/Triangle receiver on a slant
  2. Put the B/O receiver on a drag

Reads:

  1. The first read on this play is the running back on the Texas route out of the backfield
  2. Then look for the Y/Triangle receiver on the slant
  3. Lastly, find the B/O receiver on the drag route

Overview: This play we are going to use it solely to destroy man coverage. If our opponent is using man coverage basically every down against us, we can go to this play and essentially force them to run zone.

  4. Finally, find the Y/Triangle receiver on the corner route

Overview: This play is going to give us a high low concept on both sides of the field. As went over in the video we can use this play to beat any type of defense.

  2. Then look for the A/X tight end on the streak up the seam
  3. Next look for the Y/Triangle receiver on the drag

Overview: This specific setup is to beat Cover 2 style defenses. As shown in the video the wheel route by the B/O receiver get wide open along the sideline. Also, the Tight end up the seam of the field gets open because the streak splits the safeties.

Playbook: New Orleans Saints

Formation: Gun Tight Offset TE

Play: Inside Zone

Setup:

  1. None required

Reads:

  1. Follow the blockers

Overview: This is a run play to mix in with our prolific passing formation. We do not want to be one dimensional to where our opponent always knows we are passing. It is a solid run play to mix in to keep your opponent on their toes.

Very nice content guys!!! Well put together! Will all these plays still work with the defense having the new zone coverage adjustments?

good formations but complex setup. H2H we have less than 20s for all changes … very challenging

Totally agree. I’m getting crushed and this is my 4th year of Madden School so I’m not new to set ups. Why not find a playbook that doesn’t have us button smashing like we’re playing Mortal Kombat before every play. I’m having more success just running the plays the way they are.

Is this formation still worth learning after the latest patch?
