Play: WR Post

Playbook: West Coast

Formation: Gun Bunch Wk

Play: Z Spot

Setup:

  1. Put the B/O receiver on a streak
  2. Put the X/Square receiver on an in route
  3. Block the running back
  4. Motion the B/O receiver out to the right

Reads:

  1. The first read on this play is going to be the A/X tight end in the flats
  2. If that is not there look for the RB/R1 receiver on the corner route
  3. Then find the X/Square receiver coming across the middle on the in route

Overview: This play is used as a zone beater, and the use of the motion can confuse your opponent because this play looks just like so many other plays in this formation. However, the receivers are always on different routes with every play we motion the B/O receiver out on.

Playbook: West Coast

Formation: Gun Bunch Wk

Play: HB Mid Draw

Setup:

  1. None Required

Reads:

  1. Follow the blockers

Overview: Even pass heavy formations must include a run in it somewhere or the offense will become to one dimensional making it easier to guard. Mix this play in to keep your opponent on their toes.

  2. If that is not there look for the B/O receiver on the slant route
  3. Finally find the X/Square receiver deep over the middle on the post route

Overview: This passing play is effective against virtually every defense in the game. It can beat both man and zone coverage with the same setup. It also appears to be to the opponent as many other plays in this formation so your opponent can’t guess which play you are using.

  3. Then progress to the RB/R1 receiver on the streak
  4. Finally, check down to the X/Square receiver on the drag

Overview: This play is phenomenal because you can bomb Cover 3 defenses for a touchdown. Also, you can beat just about every other defense in the game as well. We stay consistent with the motioning of the B/O receiver in this play too.

Play: Mesh Post

Setup:

  1. Block the running back

Reads:

  1. The first read on this play is the A/X tight end in the flats
  2. If that is not there look for either of the drag routes underneath
  3. Then find the B/O receiver deep over the middle on the post

Overview: This play is a quick setup that we can use to quick snap our opponent. This play is extremely difficult to guard no matter what defense our opponent is in. We normally should come out in this play and have our other plays in the quick audibles.

  1. Put the X/Square receiver on a drag route
  2. Motion the B/O receiver out to the right

Reads:

  2. If the defense is in Cover 3 look for the A/X tight end up the seam
  3. The drag underneath will always be available as a check down
  4. The running back on the delay route will also beat man coverage

Overview: This Verticals setup will beat man coverage for a touchdown if there is no safety help. Against Cover 3 it will beat it up the seam of the field to the tight end.

Play: Verticals (Cover 2 Bomb)

Setup:

  1. Put the RB/R1 receiver on a streak
  2. Put the X/Square receiver on a drag
  3. Max Protect
  4. Motion the B/O receiver to the right

Reads:

  1. The main target is the B/O receiver on the wheel route
  2. If that is not there check down to the X/Square receiver on the drag

Play: Deep Corner

Setup:

  2. Put the X/Square receiver on a comeback route
  3. Max Protect

Reads:

  1. The main target is the B/O receiver deep behind the coverage

Overview: This play bombs Cover 3 defenses. However, it is optional to put the tight end on a drag route this will give you another route on the field in case you need to check it down.

Playbook: West Coast

Formation: Gun Bunch Wk

Play: Corner Strike

Setup:

  1. Put the RB/R1 receiver on either a streak or a drag route (The streak is more efficient vs Cover 2; the drag is more efficient vs Cover 3)

Reads:

  1. The first read on the play is the A/X tight end in the flats
  2. Then look for the running back in the flats
  3. If those are not there look for the B/O receiver on his corner route
  4. Next look for the X/Square receiver on his corner route
  5. Lastly, check down to the RB/R1 receiver if he is on a drag

Overview: This play is effective because it is a high/low read concept on both sides of the field. This will require a lot of adjustments from your opponent to be able to guard all the routes on this play.
