3-4 Bear

Playbook: New York Jets

Formation: 3-4 Bear

Play: Cover 2 Invert (Flipped) – Version 1 – Offense Blocking 5

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Blitz your OLB on the left
  3. Crash your defensive line out
  4. QB Contain
  5. User the MLB on the right, move him between the guard and the center and hold LT/L2 before the snap

Overview: This brings quick pressure off the left edge. We call this when we aren’t expecting our opponent to block any extra guys but it can often work even if a running back is blocking on the right.

Playbook: New York Jets

Formation: 3-4 Bear

Play: Cover 2 Invert (Flipped) – Version 2 – Offense Blocking 6

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Blitz both outside linebackers
  3. Crash your defensive line out
  4. QB Contain
  5. User the player in the yellow zone who is on the opposite side of the running back. Move him up between the guard and center and hold LT/L2

Overview: We call this play if we are expecting our opponent to block an extra running back. We are rushing 6 against 6 guys blocking but a player should come off the edge free most times. Even if your opponent blocks 7 guys, this play can sometimes come in (against a formation with both blockers on one side of the screen like Gun Trips TE).

Formation: 3-4 Bear

Play: Cover 2 Invert (Flipped) – Version 3 – Offense Blocking 7

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Blitz All your linebackers
  3. Crash your defensive line out
  4. QB Contain
  5. User the strong safety near the line of scrimmage. Move him up between the guard and center and hold LT/L2

Overview: We call this play if we are expecting our opponent to block an extra running back and an extra tight end on different sides of the formation (think Gun Bunch Wk). We are rushing 7 against 7 guys blocking but a player should in unblocked most times you do it.

Playbook: New York Jets

Formation: 3-4 Bear

Play: Cover 2 Invert (Flipped) – Version 4 – Max Coverage

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Adjust the coverage behind it however you want. (See video for recommended examples)
  3. User the strong safety near the line of scrimmage. Move him up between the guard and center and hold LT/L2

Overview: Once your opponent starts blocking an extra tight end and/or running back, that is the time to drop 8 guys into coverage. There will be times when you have 8 guys in coverage against only 3 receivers. That is exactly what we want.

Playbook: New York Jets

Formation: 3-4 Bear

Play: Pinch Buck 0

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Blitz all your linebackers
  3. User the strong safety near the line of scrimmage. Move him up between the guard and center and hold LT/L2.

Overview: This play should result in unblocked pressure even if your opponent uses max protect with a blocker on each side of the field. It is easy to set up, and has man to man coverage behind it.

Do these plays still work? And are there any good lockdown defensive plays that I’m missing or is it just all based on getting pressure

For those of us who are very new to the game and are looking for the How’s and Why’s you have nailed it. I was ready to give up on Madden football until I found you. I would be considered on the OLDER end of madden players, but you have helped me to realize that with some great advice on plays, strategies and application, I too can not only have fun, but, with practice, be able to compete. Thank You ALL for the work you put into the game and helping others. RTC
