Situational Plays

Playbook: Baltimore Ravens

Formation: Singleback Doubles

Play: Z Post Y Out

Setup:

  1. Block your running back
  2. Motion your Y/triangle receiver to the right and put him on a flat route

Reads:

  1. Your main read on this play is against cover 4 defenses to hit your B/circle receiver deep
  2. If he is covered, read between the slot receiver in the flat and the tight end on the out route

Overview: Make sure that the post route on this play is lined up on the wide side of the field and comes across to the short side. Lead pass up and to the sideline.

Playbook: Baltimore Ravens

Formation: Gun Y Trio Offset Wk

Play: Stick

Setup:

  1. Hot route your tight end to a streak route
  2. Block your running back

Reads:

  1. Your primary read on this play is the B/circle receiver. Against man to man press coverage or cover 2, he should get open (lead pass to the sideline)
  2. If he is covered, look to your slot receiver in the flat or your receiver on the slant route

Overview: This is a great way to beat cover 2 man or any sort of man to man pressure defense with the cornerbacks in press coverage.

Playbook: Baltimore Ravens

Formation: Pistol Bunch

Play: PA Deep In

Setup:

  1. (Optional) Use the 4 WRs package
  2. Put your fastest WR in the B/circle position
  3. (Optional) Block your running back

Reads:

  1. Against cover 3, throw it deep to your B/circle receiver. Pass lead to the sideline
  2. If he is covered, often your RB/R1 receiver will be open deep.

Overview: Make sure to only run this play to the wide side of the field. So if you are on the right hash mark, flip the play. This play gets the B/circle receiver wide open against cover 3.

Playbook: Baltimore Ravens

Formation: Gun Bunch

Play: Clearout SE Out

Setup:

  1. Hot route your RB/R1 receiver to an out route
  2. Motion the A/X tight end to the left

Reads:

  1. Against cover 3, throw to your B/circle receiver deep
  2. Against other zones, the A/X tight end also gets open deep

Overview: This play only works to the wide side of the field. Make sure you are on the left hash mark to run it.

Playbook: Baltimore Ravens

Formation: Singleback Wing Slot

Play: Jet Sweep

Setup:

  1. (Optional) Put your fastest WR in the slot.

Overview: If you get a look you like, run the play as is.

Playbook: Baltimore Ravens

Formation: Gun Y Trips Wk

Play: Fades Y Trail

Setup:

  1. Block your running back
  2. Put your RB/R1 receiver on a whip route
  3. Put your B/circle receiver on a drag route
  4. Put your X/square receiver on a comeback route

Reads:

  1. Your first read is always the RB/R1 receiver on the whip route against man to man coverage
  2. You also have the tight end on the trail route
  3. And the X/square receiver on the comeback route

Overview: Every route on the field beats man to man coverage. Call this play against an opponent who will not get out of man to man defense.

Playbook: Baltimore Ravens

Formation: Gun Y Trips Wk

Play: Read Option

Setup: None required

Overview: Always hand the ball off to your running back and then find the hole. Don’t be afraid to bounce the run outside.

Playbook: Baltimore Ravens

Formation: Pistol Weak

Play: Triple Option

Setup:

  1. Use the Dual HB package to substitute your backup running back at fullback

Overview: Always hand the ball off to your 2nd running back. The blocking on this play is extremely effective.

So, on the Pistol Weak Triple Option play, would it be a good idea to switch the positions of the dual running backs so that you have your best and #1 back getting the hand-off instead of the secondary back?

Same question for the Pistol Strong Triple Option play. OK to make that switch so your #1 back gets the hand-off?

Hello Guys,

its my first year with you guys. I like it a lot.

Do you have any plans to release strategys like how to start a game? This question might sound a bit silly, but i am curios to hear what you guys think about it?

what plays to call. What is our goal in den first quarter? Its more of a gameplan? What is your mindset when you start a game? I know its most likely depending on the type you are. I would like to hear your opinion.
