Singleback Tight Flex (I Form)

Playbook: Balanced

Formation: Singleback Tight Flex

Play: Run Scheme (HB Off Tackle and Dive)

Setup:

  1. Motion B/Circle to the left; hike when or before he sets
  2. Note: You can flip the runs to either side if you prefer, but this must be done before the motion.

Overview:  In this video, I show my favorite motion for short yardage, which is the dive, flipped to the right, with a quick motion and hike before B/Circle sets. This gives the exact look that the HB Wham did out of deuce close when it was popular in past years and produces the exact same results without being as predictable.

Playbook: Balanced

Formation: Singleback Tight Flex

Play: Mesh

Setup:

  1. Put A/X on a streak route
  2. Put X/Square on a curl
  3. Block RB
  4. Motion B/Circle to the left; hike when he sets

Reads:

  1. The hot read will be a quick throw to Y/Triangle on the drag route
  2. Our priority read on this play is the B/Circle corner route after it clears past the zone coverages, or quick thrown into the hole of the zone right out of the break

Overview:  The look that you get from motioning the TE into the backfield is what makes this formation truly unique, and we take advantage of it on this play by getting a corner route from the fullback spot. This corner route will get behind zones, and also beat man off the break with a quick throw. Additionally, I do not show this in the video but I do sometimes leave the X/Square WR on that streak route, and then streak the RB and throw to him in the hole vs zone.

Playbook: Balanced

Formation: Singleback Tight Flex

Play: Slot Corner

Setup:

  1. Put Y/Triangle on a streak route
  2. Motion B/Circle to the left; hike when he sets

Reads:

  1. Our first hot read will be A/X on the drag route
  2. Our two primary reads are the motioned B/Circle corner route out of the break or late, as well as the Deep In route (X/Square) behind it

Overview:  This play looks similar to the mesh look, but we are instead going to attack the left side of the field. The FB corner route will require some patience, as it is a slower developing route that will be open late; you must use disciplined pass leading precision in some instances. Additionally, I like to throw the deep in route once the zones clear out.
