Formation: Gun Trips TE Flex

Play: PA Shot Crossers (Cover 3 Beater)

Setup:

Make sure you are on the right hash mark
Hot route your X/square receiver to a comeback route
Hot route your tight end to a drag route against cover 3
Hot route your B/circle receiver to a corner route and then custom stem it up 3 times

Reads:

Your primary read on this play is the B/circle receiver deep
If he is covered, look to the Y/triangle receiver on the other side of the field
The tight end on the drag route acts as a nice checkdown option if you guessed wrong on the coverage

Overview: This is a unique cover 3 beater because it gets 2 different guys open on the same play so even if your opponent tries to user defend it, he will have to make a choice and leave one receiver open.

Let’s take a closer look at how this play works!

When the ball is snapped, you can see our tight end on the drag route will usually be open. That’s a good checkdown option in case you find yourself quickly under pressure.

The X/square receiver on the comeback route holds the cornerback responsible for the deep left third a little too shallow allowing our B/circle receiver to sneak past him.

If we zoom out, we can see that the safety in the middle third is put into a tough position having to cover both routes going opposite directions. We just choose which one we want to throw to.
