Madden 17 Run Defense: Gun Tight Offset TE Inside Zone

In today’s free Madden 17 strategy, we are going over how to stop an extremely common run from one of the most popular formations in the game.

If we can cause our opponent to abandon the running game, defense will become much easier.

Playbook: Any 4-3

Formation: 4-3 Under

Play: Cover 3 Hard Flat

Setup:

1. Spread DL
2. Crash DL Down
3. (Optional) Blitz ROLB
4. See video for positioning

Overview: This formation is the perfect counter for the Inside Zone out of Gun Tight Offset TE for multiple reasons. First of all, you have your DE out wide against a WR, giving you an instant matchup advantage before the ball is snapped.

Second, you can easily manipulate the DL to give you instant gap control. Thirdly, since you have 3 linebackers against a 3 WR set, you have the numbers advantage in the run game. Using all of these factors allows you to perfectly counter the run and force your opponent to become one dimensional.
