Note: This formation has been patched as of 9/8/20 and no longer works the same.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Trey Y-Flex
Play: PA Crossers (Man Beater)
Setup:
- Put the X/Square receiver on a streak
- Put the Y/Triangle receiver on a drag
- Motion the X/Square receiver in 2-3 steps until the defense flips
Reads:
- The first read on this play is the X/Square receiver on the streak
- Next look for the A/X tight end on the right side of the field
- If that is not there look for the B/O receiver on the crossing route
- Finally, if nothing else is there check down to the drag by the Y/Triangle receiver
Overview: This video breaks down how to completely ruin man defense. This play will make it to where your opponent essentially cannot run man defense at all. In this formation you can create the man switch on both sides of the field leaving two people completely wide open.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Trey Y-Flex
Play: Levels Out
Setup:
- Block the running back
- Put the Y/Triangle receiver on a drag route
- Motion the A/X tight end out to the right
Reads:
- The main read on this play is the B/O receiver deep over top the coverage
- If that is not there look for the Y/Triangle receiver on the drag route
- Then look for the X/Square receiver on the in route
Overview: On this play we are going over how to bomb a Cover 3 style zone for an easy touchdown. The motion of the tight end is going to make this play possible, because his corner route will hold down the cornerback in the outside third.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Trey Y-Flex
Play: Inside Zone
Setup:
- None required
Reads:
- Follow the blockers
Overview: As always it is important to mix a run into a pass heavy formation. Even though we have so many deadly passes we still have to keep our opponent on their toes and not just let them full commit to the pass.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Trey Y-Flex
Play: Read Option
Setup:
- None required
Reads:
- Read the defensive end on the right side of the field
Overview: The Read Option we have found to be very effective in online play. This is also a great play to use inside the red zone. If you see the end crash down on the running back keep the ball with the QB. If the end stands up and waits for the QB simply give the ball to the running back.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Trey Y-Flex
Play: Levels Y Corner
Setup:
- Put the B/O receiver on a streak
- Put the Y/Triangle receiver on a drag
Reads:
- The first read on the play is the running back on the table route
- If that is not there look for the A/X tight end on the corner route
- Then progress to the B/O receiver on the streak which will be open against Cover 2 defenses
- Next, find the Y/Triangle receiver on the drag route
- Finally, the last check down is the X/Square receiver on the in route
Overview: This is a great play to attack zone coverage with, given the right side of the field is a high low read with the running back and tight end. Then the middle of the field gets attacked by the streak, drag and in route. This is a good play to use in short yardage situations.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Trey Y-Flex
Play: PA Crossers
Setup:
- Put the A/X tight end on a streak
- Put the X/Square receiver on an in route
Reads:
- The main read on this play is the B/O receiver on the crossing route deep to the right
- Then look for the Y/Triangle receiver on the post over the middle
- Lastly, check down to the X/Square receiver on the in route
Overview: PA Crossers is always one of the better plays to use against zone coverage because the crossing route is deadly and can beat any type of zone coverage. Your opponent will more than likely have to user it which will in turn open up the rest of the field.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Trey Y-Flex
Play: Dagger
Setup:
- Block the running back
- Motion the Y/Triangle receiver to the right side of the field
Reads:
- The first read on the play is the A/X tight end on the drag route
- Then look for the B/O receiver on the crossing route
- Finally, find the X/Square receiver deep on the in route over the middle
Overview: This play is going to create some confusion to your opponent with the motion. Again, this play has an effective crossing route by the B/O receiver, and the tight end is on a drag route which we have not had him going to the left much in this formation yet. Also, as shown in the video there is a way to effectively pick up short yardage and much needed first downs with this play.

the man glitch is easily countered by switching coaching adjustments to “BY SPEED” for CB MATCHUP
Excellent plays. Thank you. I am going to actually learn plays and a strategy this year, so I bought your unlimited for the year. Having fun already with just the first 4-5 plays I am learning. On the PA Crossers out of gun trey Y-Flex, I see that it is pass action and then you cancel the PA after the hike. Is that necessary? Or would it be better to just put the RB in block?
Hi, thank you for the kind words! Either way works just fine, it just dpeends on what you are more comfortable with.
If you know that you are going to hand off to the running back, is the blocking more effective when you choose the play Inside Zone vs Option Read and choose to hand it off? I just don’t know what the benefit is of ever choosing the play inside zone vs option read.
They patched PA crossers, and it was so effective. I’m really struggling with man coverage. I’ve kinda mastered the zone beaters and when to run them but man kills me.
