Gun Empty Y-Saint

Playbook: New Orleans Saints

Formation: Gun Empty Y-Saint

Play: Saints Corner, Y Stick, or Saints In (Beating Cover 2 with zone drops)

Setup:

  1. Put your tight end on a streak route

Reads:

  1. If your opponent is in a cover 2 defense using zone drops, your B/circle receiver will not get pressed at the line of scrimmage and will be wide open for a TD

Overview: Make sure to run this play to the wide side of the field and have your fastest wide receiver in the B/circle position.

Playbook: New Orleans Saints

Formation: Gun Empty Y-Saint

Play: Saints Drag

Setup:

  1. Motion your running back to the right and put him on a streak route
  2. Block your tight end
  3. Put your B/circle receiver on a smart routed in route
  4. Double team the pass rusher on the left

Reads:

  1. Against cover 2, look to the Y/triangle receiver (lead pass to the sideline)
  2. If he is covered, or if your opponent isn’t in cover 2, look to the crossing route or the in route

Overview: This play destroys and sort of cover 2 defense (with or without zone drops enabled).

Playbook: New Orleans Saints

Formation: Gun Empty Y-Saint

Play: Y Stick (Version 1)

Setup:

  1. Hot route your tight end to a streak route
  2. Hot route your X/square running back to a drag route

Reads:

  1. Your main option on this play is the high low read between the running back on the drag route and the Y/triangle receiver on the post route

Overview: This route combination forces your opponent to choose whether to user the drag route or the post route. One of them will always be open.

Playbook: New Orleans Saints

Formation: Gun Empty Y-Saint

Play: Y Stick (Version 2)

Setup:

  1. Put the B/O receiver on a fade
  2. Put the A/X tight end on a streak
  3. Put the RB/R1 receiver on a slant
  4. Motion the RB/R1 receiver in 2-3 steps

Reads:

  1. The first read on the play is the B/O receiver on the fade
  2. Then look for the X/Square running back on the smoke screen
  3. Next, look for the A/X tight end on the streak up the seam
  4. After that, find the RB/R1 receiver on the slant route
  5. Finally, find the Y/Triangle receiver on the post

Overview: This is another universal play that can beat pretty much any defense in the game. All you have to do is work on making the correct read and this play will be detrimental to your opponent.

Playbook: New Orleans Saints

Formation: Gun Empty Y-Saint

Play: Saints Fork

Setup:

  1. Put the Y/triangle receiver on an in route
  2. Put the X/square running back on a comeback route
  3. Max Protect
  4. Double team the outside most pass rusher on the left

Reads:

  1. Against cover 2 and cover 4 defenses, look to the B/circle receiver deep on the post route

Overview: This is a shot play so if the post route isn’t there then just scramble or throw the ball away. This play works best with a QB with good throw power.
