Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Bunch
Play: Mesh (1st setup)
Setup:
- Block the running back
- Put the RB/R1 receiver on a streak
- Motion the B/O receiver to the left
Reads:
- The main read on the play is the B/O receiver on the post
- Then look for the A/X tight end in the flats
- Lastly, find the X/Square receiver on his drag route
Overview: This is a unique way to use the Bunch formation. The streak by the RB/R1 receiver clears out the space for the B/O receiver to be wide open against any type of zone coverage look.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Bunch
Play: Mesh (Match Beater)
Setup:
- Block the running back
- Put the RB/R1 receiver on a streak
Reads:
- The main read on the play is the RB/R1 receiver
- Look for the X/Square receiver as a check down
Overview: This is how to absolutely destroy a match style defense which for example is a Cover 4 Palms. The streak just gets completely lost in coverage for an easy touchdown. Also the video shows what the reads are if the defense is in a different type of zone coverage.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Bunch
Play: HB Base
Setup:
- None required
Reads:
- Follow the blockers
Overview: Every good passing formation needs at least one solid run to mix in, so the opponent does not commit too heavily to the pass. For example, we do not want the opponent to know every time we audible to Bunch that it will be a pass.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Bunch
Play: Verticals
Setup:
- Max Protect
- Streak the RB/R1 receiver
- Put the X/Square receiver on an in route
- Motion the B/O receiver out to the right
Reads:
- Look for the B/O receiver along the sideline initially
- Then look for the RB/R1 receiver on the streak in the middle of the field
- Finally, check down to the X/Square receiver on the in route
Overview: This is a good way to beat Cover 2 style defenses out of the Bunch formation. The safety just cannot guard both the streak and the wheel route.
Playbook: New Orleans Saints
Formation: Gun Bunch
Play: Z Spot
Setup:
- Put the B/O receiver on an out route
- Put the A/X tight end on a streak
- Put the X/Square receiver on an in route
- Block the running back
Reads:
- The main target is the RB/R1 receiver on the corner route
- Then look for the A/X tight end up the seam of the field
- Lastly, find the X/Square receiver coming across the field on the in route
Overview: This is a great play to mix in for any situation, the corner route is incredibly difficult to cover. The bunch side is a high low read with the short out route. The user will have to manually cover the corner leaving the in route open over the middle.
