In today’s free Madden 24 tip, we are going over a really easy way to beat Cover 3 defenses deep for a 1 play touchdown.
It is found in the Pistol Bunch TE formation which also happens to have the best run play in Madden 24 in it.
This is a shot play without any checkdown options, so you will want to make sure that your opponent is in a cover 3 defense before you snap the ball.
The play is found in the Chiefs offensive playbook which we’ve already covered 60 plays in with at least 6 easy ways to destroy any sort of cover 3 defense.

Playbook: Chiefs or Commanders
Formation: Pistol Bunch TE
Play: Spot Y Option
Setup:
- Make sure you are on the right hash mark
- Hot route your X/square receiver to a streak or fade route
- Hot route your tight end to a streak route
- Hot route your B/circle receiver to a streak route and motion him right
- Block your running back
- (Optional) Double team the outside most pass rusher on the left and drift that way after the snap
Reads:
- Your main read is the X/square receiver on the streak/fade route. Lead pass up and to the left sideline
Overview: This is a shot play when you are expecting a cover 3 defenses from your opponent. You don’t have any other reads so if it isn’t there, either scramble with your quarterback throw the ball away.
Let’s take a closer look at how this play works!
This screenshot shows you how the final play art should look right before you snap the ball.
Once the ball is snapped, you can see that the Y/triangle receiver on the corner route draws the attention of the cornerback in the deep blue zone, making him commit to the shallower receiver.
That leaves the safety in the middle third responsible for 2 receivers entering his zone. He will lean more towards the tight end on the streak route.
When we lead pass to the left, the pass should go above the cornerback’s head and too far to the outside for the middle third safety to make a play on the ball.
We RAC catch it by pressing X/square and are able to walk into the endzone for a touchdown.
