Playbook: Carolina Panthers

Formation: 5-2 Normal

Play: Cover 2

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Slant Outside the Defensive Line
  3. Pinch the Linebackers
  4. Blitz all Linebackers

Overview: This blitz brings insane pressure on the quarter back. User one of the safeties and adjust your zones how you see fitting to your opponent. User your opponents’ first quick read and by that time the QB will be hit.

Play: Cover 3

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Slant Outside the Defensive Line
  3. Pinch the Linebackers
  4. Blitz all Linebackers

Overview: This blitz is used more situationally in a 3rd and long and 4th and long type scenarios. This will provide over the top coverage while getting extreme pressure on the QB. User the strong safety and guard your opponents’ first read.

Setup:

  2. Slant Outside the Defensive Line
  3. Pinch the Linebackers
  4. Blitz all Linebackers

Overview: This blitz brings extreme heat on the QB with man coverage. User the safety that is guarding the running back, if the running back does not go out on a route drop back into coverage.

Play: Cover 2 (Vs Max Protection)

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Slant Outside the Defensive Line
  3. Pinch the Linebackers
  4. Blitz all Linebackers
  5. Move the right side of the screen linebacker to the right of the Defensive End
  6. Stand in one of the gaps with your user

Overview: This blitz is for when your opponent starts to max protect their offense. Which in most cases means they are blocking 7 people. This setup will still bring immediate pressure on the QB.

Play: Cover 3 (Vs Max Protection)

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Slant Outside the Defensive Line
  3. Pinch the Linebackers
  4. Blitz all Linebackers
  5. Move the right side of the screen linebacker to the right of the Defensive End
  6. Stand in one of the gaps with your user

Overview: This blitz is for when your opponent starts to max protect their offense. Which in most cases means they are blocking 7 people. However, it is most beneficial to use this blitz setup in a 3rd and long or 4th and long situation. This is because we are pretty much playing over the top coverage while still getting immediate pressure on the QB.

Play: Pinch (Vs Max Protection)

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Slant Outside the Defensive Line
  3. Pinch the Linebackers
  4. Blitz all Linebackers
  5. Move the right side of the screen linebacker to the right of the Defensive End
  6. Stand in one of the gaps with your user

Overview: This is the man version for when your opponent is max protecting their offense. I personally like to run it when it is a 3rd and short or 4th and short situation. It brings quick pressure and forces your opponent to release the ball very quick.

Play: Cover 2 (Coverage D)

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Pinch the Linebackers
  3. Put the Linebacker on the right side of the screen as shown in the video in a Middle Third
  4. User the Middle Linebacker
  5. Adjust the other zones to your opponents’ offense

Overview: This is a coverage defense that will appear to your opponent that you are still blitzing them heavily. When mixing this in correctly it can force a lot of turnovers because your opponent will try to throw the ball quick into the coverage expecting a blitz.

Setup:

  1. Base Align
  2. Pinch the Linebackers
  3. User one of the linebackers in a yellow zone
  4. Adjust the coverage fitting to the opponents’ offense
  5. Play the Sticks

Overview: Cover 3 is one of the best coverage defenses in this year’s game because you can adjust to essentially any offensive play out of it. The video breaks down how to guard some of the common crossing patterns using this style of coverage defense.
