Playbook: Jacksonville Jaguars
Formation: 46 Normal
Play: Cover 2 Invert
Setup:
- Base Align
- Move your free safety down closer to the line of scrimmage
- (Optional) Spread or shift your defensive line to whichever side has more blockers
- (Optional) Spread your linebackers
Overview: This is our base run defense that we come out in to slow down our opponent’s running game. Even if you get hit with a play action pass, you still have amazing coverage.
Playbook: Jacksonville Jaguars

Play: Cover 3 Match
Setup:
- Base Align
- Shift your linebackers to the left
- Blitz your LOLB and ROLB
- Shift your defensive line to the right
- (Optional) Put your DE on the right into a QB spy
Overview: This play brings really nice heat as long as your opponent isn’t blocking extra guys.
Playbook: Jacksonville Jaguars
Formation: 46 Normal
Play: Inside Blitz
Setup:
- Spread your defensive line and crash them out
- Put one of your defensive ends in a qb spy
- Move your blitzing linebacker on the right 2 steps to the left and 1 step back. See the video for exact positioning.
Overview: As long as your opponent isn’t blocking extra guys, you should get A-gap pressure right up the middle.
Playbook: Jacksonville Jaguars
Formation: 46 Normal
Play: Cover 3
Setup:
- Base Align
- Spread your defensive line
- Blitz your MLB and your OLB on the right
- Put your defensive end on the left in a QB Spy
- (Optional) Adjust the zones behind it however you’d like
Overview: The faster your MLB is, the better this play will be for you. This blitz may still get in even if your opponent is blocking a running back as long as the running back is blocking on the right side of the field.
Cover 3 play is not working for me at all. the DE on the spy keeps running into the MLB and stopping his progress.
madden school, the second ive started playing against higher levels of competition these blitzes have become null. higher level players keep guys in to block and find the weaknesses of defenses. as do i… I know its a game of chess but these just dont hit home consistently
Right that is what happens when you get to a higher level. Anytime a guy starts blocking their running back, you should immediately switch to an 8 man coverage. You can take away his first read with your user ability, then you have 7 guys covering 3 guys. Nothing is perfect but those odds are really good.
There isn’t a forum for this group unfortunately. Really the hardest thing this year is scoring consistently when you get inside the red zone. It is harder than ever before and there really isn’t any trick or money play that can consistently score inside of the red zone.
is it just me, or has the cover 2 invert run defense stopped working after the last big update? I used to kill with it. any new suggestions?
specifically, runs up the middle…if my safety gets blocked, it’s a td right now.
Surprisingly Cover 4 defenses work well this year to stop the run. We’ll have a video on that in the next update.
There isn’t a 46 Normal formation on the bills defense playbook, can I find these plays in the bills playbook?
Many of them will be in the Bills playbook but a few formations, like the 46 Normal, will not be.
Hey guys, keep up the good work.
For me as a Rookie from Germany, i wonder if you could write or provide a guide, where all different things for defensive adjustments are explained. I mean i got Base Align figured out, and blitzes also what means shifting/pinching/maxprotect and QB Spy. They are kinda obvious. But what i mean is all the stuff you can do like “cover underneath” “press” etc… A full list would freaking help me out 🙂
