3-4 Odd – Part 1

Playbook: New York Jets

Formation: 3-4 Odd

Play: Pinch Buck 0

Setup:

  1. Base Align (You may also want to man align for this play).
  2. Pinch your linebackers and globally blitz them all
  3. QB Contain
  4. User the MLB on the opposite side of the running back. Let him take a step in to blitz and then pull him off into coverage (manually cover the unguarded receiver).

Overview: This is our go-to defense out of the 3-4 odd formation. It is high risk/high reward. If your opponent shows he can consistently beat this defense, switch to something else. Many won’t have any answer for it. We call it until our opponent stops it.

When I play online head to head match, it does not show what offensive play my opponent ran previously. Is this something normal for Madden 20?

Please help me to clarify something about which LB to user in the Pinch Buck 0.

In video #1, you chose the LB opposite of the RB as the user. In video #2, where you were showing a trips formation, you used the LB who was lined up with the RB. Both scenarios seemed to execute the blitz the way you intended.

What is the rule of thumb as to when to use the LB who is opposite the RB versus using the LB who is lined up with the RB to make the blitz work? Does the difference have to do with whether you are base aligning versus man aligning? Or is there something else that determines which LB to user in order for the blitz to work properly?

I don’t know how to play Madden, but I sure love football. Would I learn how to play like a professional?

Hey PhillyBD87.

If you are looking to learn how to play Madden and how to take your game to the highest level, you came to the right place!

I’ve learned just about everything I know from Madden School in the past 4 seasons and I never played the game before that in my entire life.

I am in my 50s and regularly beat and dominate teenagers and young adults who were born with a controller in their hands!

This is THE best place for being taught. Hands down. No questions. This truly is a school!

It will take you some time and practice, but the payoff is awesome!

After watching video #1 (Pinch Buck 0) a few more times, it did not appear that you were positioning the user LB really close to the line of scrimmage and holding down the right trigger button. The user LB appears to be back about a yard from the line of scrimmage. Am I right about that?

I ask because I am used to the instructions of positioning the LB very close to the line of scrimmage between the center and the guard and holding down the RT button until the ball is snapped.

Just checking for understanding and to see if that makes a difference with this blitz.

Thanks.

Meant to say Left trigger instead of right trigger.

The only blitz I can get to work is Pinch Buck 0 out of 3-4 Bear flipped. I get destroyed if I run anything else. Cover 2 hard flat doesn’t stop any short routes for me. I get burned every time

Having trouble with this 34 odd scheme. I use the niners. Any tips on roster adjustments or is this defense predicated on teams whonuse 34 exclusively

Well, my question is for the Ravens, how would you set up their roster to maximize their 3-4 potential? Also, most of the plays in the NYJ playbook are also in the Ravens playbook. However, I’d love to see some blitzes, and man coverage schemes from the 3-4 Predator and the 3-4 Over ED as well which are in the Ravens playbook. Thanks!
