Let’s dive in!

Playbook: Green Bay Packers

Formation: Singleback Tight Y Off

Play: Bench Switch

Setup:

  1. Hot route your Y/triangle receiver to a drag route
  2. Hot route your tight end to a drag route
  3. Smart route your B/circle receiver

Reads:

  1. Your first look is to see if the B/circle receiver gets open against man to man coverage.
  2. If he is covered, one of the double drags should be open.
  3. Then look to your X/square receiver and then to your running back on the short curl

Overview: This play has routes that get open against every coverage in the game if you make your reads correctly. The B/circle smart route destroys man to man coverage especially if you have a superstar WR with Slot-O-Matic or Route Technician. The double drags are incredibly deadly as well.

Play: PA Deep Cross (Setup 1)

Setup:

  1. Block your running back
  2. Drag the tight end and the Y/triangle WR

Reads:

  1. Your primary read on this play is the B/circle receiver deep. He gets open against every coverage in the game as long as your opponent doesn’t user defend him
  2. If your opponent is usering deep, look to the drags underneath

Overview: Once your opponent starts worrying about the shallow double drags, it is time to make your opponent defend deep as well. The B/circle route is one of the best routes in the game. Most users will go with the X/Square receiver on the deep post route.

Reads:

  1. Your X/square receiver will usually get wide open against cover 2 defenses, cover 4 pressed defenses, and man to man defenses
  2. If he is covered, the B/circle receiver is generally always open
  3. Or check down to your tight end underneath
