Check out the full breakdown below!
Playbook: Seattle Seahawks
Formation: Gun Bunch Y-Flex
Play: Verticals (Man Beater)
Setup:
- Make sure you are on the right hash mark
- Hot route the A/X receiver to a streak route
- Hot route the X/square receiver to a drag route
- Block your running back
Reads:
- Your primary read on this play is the B/circle receiver on the wheel route against man to man coverage
- If the B/circle receiver is covered, or if it isn’t man coverage you can hit your tight end on the drag route
Overview: The key to this play working is buying enough time to allow the B/circle receiver to get open. You can flip this play if your find yourself on the left hash mark.
Let’s take a closer look at how this play works!
This is how the final play art should look. Notice how the wheel route is being run to the short side of the field. That is an important detail!
Notice how when the wheel route initially turns up field the cornerback in man coverage stays with him.
Eventually though, the defender in man coverage will stop running with the wheel route.
Once we see that the defender is slowing down, we know we can make the throw. By the time our receiver catches the ball he is 8 yards in front of the defender.
