Playbook: New York Giants

Formation: Dime 1-4-6

Play: Cover 1 Robber

Setup:

  1. Put the blitzing MLB and the strong safety into curl flat zones (optional)
  2. User the free safety (or safety opposite the running back) and stand on the outside hip of the defensive end
  3. Shoot the gap between the offensive tackle and offensive guard and tackle the running back

Overview: This run defense will allow you to shoot almost every single Shotgun run. Make sure to user the safety on the opposite side of the running back for the best results.

Playbook: New York Giants

Formation: Nickel 2-4-5

Play: Cover 1 Hole

Setup:

  1. Pinch your defense
  2. Crash inside on the defensive line
  3. User the safety opposite of the running back and stand on the outside hip of the defensive end
  4. Shoot the gap between the offensive tackle and offensive guard and tackle the running back

Overview: This run defense is used primarily for run defense against Shotgun formations that have 2 or 3 tight ends and is best against inside zone.

Playbook: New York Giants

Formation: Nickel 2-4-5

Play: Cover 3 Buzz Press (Shotgun)

Setup:

  1. Pinch your defense
  2. Crash down on the defensive line
  3. Adjust your defense accordingly

Overview: Remember to put your auto-alignment on “Man”. This defense is for Shotgun formations with 2 or 3 tight ends. User the free safety and mix up your coverages to throw off your opponent.

Playbook: New York Giants

Formation: Nickel 2-4-5 (Singleback)

Play: Cover 3 Buzz Press

Setup:

  1. Pinch your defense
  2. Shift your defensive line towards the nickel cornerback
  3. Slant outside on your defensive line
  4. User the MLB that is stacked directly behind the defensive tackle
  5. Shoot the gap between the center and guard and tackle the running back

Overview: This run defense is primarily used for Singleback HB dive and other Singleback inside runs. We recommend using this defense for Singleback formations that use 1 TE and 3 WR, as it can struggle to stop outside runs against 2 or 3 TE Singleback formations.

Formation: Nickel 3-3-5 Odd

Play: Cover 1 Hole

Setup:

  1. Flip your play before calling it
  2. Press your coverage
  3. Shift your defensive line to the right
  4. User the left MLB and stand on the outside hip of the defensive tackle
  5. Shoot the gap between the center and guard and tackle the running back

Overview: This run defense is primarily used against HB dive and HB iso out of Singleback and I-form formations. Remember to be ready for an outside run and scrape to the outside with your user to contain the running back.

Formation: Nickel 3-3-5 Wide

Play: Cover 2 Man

Setup:

  1. Press your coverage
  2. Shift your defensive line to the right
  3. Slant outside on the defensive line
  4. User the MLB and stand on the outside hip of the defensive tackle
  5. Shoot the gap between the center and guard and tackle the running back

Overview: This is a great all-around run defense against heavier Singleback and I-form formations with 2 or 3 tight ends. You can spy your safeties for extra run support as well.

Play: Tampa 2

Setup:

  1. Press your coverage
  2. Shift your line to the right
  3. Adjust your defense accordingly

Overview: This video goes over pass defense adjustments against heavy sets. With this defense, you can play aggressive or passive without letting your opponent know what you are doing.

Out of nickel 2-4-5 I don’t see cover three buzz press in all plays I only see cover 3 hard flat, buzz match, regular match, cloud, and sky? Will it only work in buzz press?
