The plays below do an excellent job of beating Cover 2 Zone for a touchdown.

Playbook: Carolina Panthers

Formation: Gun Bunch Open Offset

Play: Flood

Setup: None required

Reads:

  1. Your primary read on this play against cover 2 defenses is the B/circle receiver deep. Lead pass to the sideline

Overview: Make sure to run this play from the left hashmark (or to the wide side of the field). And you will want a fast wide receiver in the B/circle spot.

Playbook: Carolina Panthers

Formation: I Form Close

Play: PA HB Wheel

Setup:

  1. Motion the B/circle receiver to the right
  2. (Optional) Put the running back on an out route to the right

Reads:

  1. Your main read on this play against cover 2 is the B/circle receiver deep. Lead pass to the sideline

Overview: This play only works if you are on the left hashmark. If you are on the right hashmark, flip the play and do the same steps but reversed and throw to the X/square receiver instead.

Playbook: Carolina Panthers

Formation: I Form Close

Play: PA Post Shot (Cover 2)

Setup:

  1. Hot route the X/square receiver to a smart routed out route

Reads:

  1. Your main read against cover 2 is the B/circle receiver deep. Lead pass up.

Overview: You can run this play from anywhere on the field but it won’t work if your opponent puts a middle linebacker in a deep zone.

Formation: Gun Empty Y-Panther

Play: Double Drags

Setup:

  1. Hot route your X/square running back to a streak and motion him to the right

Reads:

  1. Your primary read on this play is the Y/triangle receiver against cover 2. Lead pass to the sideline (see video for timing)

Overview: This play works best if you are on the right hashmark.

Formation: Gun Trips

Play: Slot Corner (Cover 2 Beater)

Setup: None required

Reads:

  1. Your main read on this play against cover 2 defenses is the A/X receiver deep. Lead pass to the middle of the field

Overview: You’ll want a fast wide receiver in the A/X spot. This play won’t work if your opponent puts a linebacker in a deep blue zone.
