In this week’s Madden School Film Room, Stickwork is going over how to shut down the popular Singleback Tight Slots formation in Madden 18.

Playbook: New England Patriots
Formation: 34 Odd
Play: Cover 4 Drop Show 2
Setup:
- Base Align
- Press Coverage
- Pinch the Defensive Line
- Slant Inside the Defensive Line
- Spread the Linebackers
- Change the Purple zones to Hard Flats
Overview: This is the run defense for the Tight Slots formation, the way everyone is lined up it perfectly stops the HB Pitch, and you can also shoot the gap to blow up the HB Dive.
Playbook: New England Patriots

Play: Cross 3 Fire
Setup:
- Base Align
- Spread the defensive line
- Slant Inside the defensive line
- Blitz all the linebackers
- User the left side of the screen Middle Linebacker
Overview: This blitz when used against a under center Tight Slots formation there is really no way for the opponent to pick up the blitz.
Playbook: New England Patriots
Formation: 34 Odd
Play: Tampa 2
Setup:
- Base Align
- Spread the defensive line
- Slant Inside the defensive line
- Adjust the zones accordingly (As shown in the video)
Overview: Running a Tampa 2 defense will shut down the post in the middle of the field when putting the linebacker in a deep blue. It will also shut down Bench with the combination of both hard flats and cloud flats.

Right now we don’t have that ability since member content is protected but if it becomes available in the future, it is something we’d definitely want to do.
