Formation: Gun Trips

Play: Slot Corner

Setup: None required

Reads:

  1. Just hit the A/X receiver deep. Lead pass to the middle of the field

Overview: This is one of the easiest ways to beat cover 2 man. Make sure you have a fast receiver in the A/X spot.

Playbook: Carolina Panthers

Formation: Gun Trips

Play: Stick Wheel

Setup:

  1. Hot route the A/X receiver to a streak route
  2. Motion the B/circle receiver to the left and snap it before he gets set (see the video for timing)

Reads:

  1. The main read against man to man defense is the A/X on the streak pass. Lead pass to the inside
  2. You also have the B/circle receiver on the corner route. Lead pass away from the safety
  3. The X/square receiver on the slant route usually gets open against man to man defense.

Overview: This play has multiple options that get open against man to man defense.

Formation: Gun Doubles Y Off

Play: Redzone Scissors

Setup:

  1. Motion the B/circle receiver to the left
  2. (Optional) Block your tight end

Reads:

  1. Your primary read on this play is the B/circle receiver deep.

Overview: This play destroys cover 2 man defense as well. Make sure you have your best receiver in the B/circle spot.

Formation: Gun Bunch Offset

Play: Smash Return

Setup:

  1. None required but you can adjust the tight end, running back, or X/square receiver’s routes to whatever you want

Reads:

  1. Your primary reads on this play are the 2 receivers over the middle of the field who should both get pretty open against man to man defense.

Overview: Not every play has to go for a touchdown. This play has multiple routes that beat man coverage for a modest gain.

Formation: I Form Close

Play: PA Post Shot (Cover 2 Man – Version 1)

Setup:

  1. Hot route the B/circle receiver to a slant route
  2. Put the tight end on a streak route

Reads:

  1. Just read between the X/square receiver and the B/circle receiver. Throw to the receiver our opponent’s user doesn’t follow.

Overview: This is a play that can usually get you 15-25 yards against cover 2 man and really any sort of man to man defense. It is great because you still have a very real threat of running the ball from this formation.

Formation: I Form Close

Play: PA Post Shot (Cover 2 Man – Version 2)

Setup:

  1. Hot route the X/square receiver to a smart routed out route

Reads:

  1. Your primary read on this play is the B/circle receiver deep against cover 2 man. Lead pass up.

Overview: This is a shot play against cover 2 or cover 2 man where our only read is the B/circle receiver deep. You can hot route the tight end and running backs to whatever you would like if you want more receiving options.

Formation: Gun Y Off Trio Wk

Play: Stick N Up

Setup:

  1. Hot route your running back to a wheel route and motion him to the left

Reads:

  1. You have multiple routes that all get open against man to man coverage. The X/square receiver on the post route, the RB/R1 receiver, and often the A/X tight end will all get open. Just stay away from your opponent’s user.

Overview: This play has multiple reads that all torch man to man coverage for 15-25 yard gains.

Formation: Gun Wing Slot Wk

Play: RPO Alert Bubble

Setup:

  1. Motion the X/square receiver to the right

Reads:

  1. Just quickly throw it to the Y/triangle receiver if he is open. If he isn’t, then let the quarterback hand the ball off to your running back.

Overview: This screen pass, like many of the other bubble screen passes, get wide open against man to man coverage.

Play: Drive Trail

Setup:

  1. Hot route the B/circle receiver to a slant route and motion him to the left
  2. Hot route the A/X tight end to a smart routed out route
  3. Hot route the Y/triangle receiver to a streak route

Reads:

  1. The main read on this play is between the B/circle receiver on the slant route the running back on the angle route

Overview: This play has 2 receivers get open underneath, and you can still sometimes get the Y/triangle receiver open over the top.

In the play drive trail, out of gun tight slots, I’m curious as to why you are putting the Tight end on the smart routed out route. Seems to just congest the slant coming across whenever you run it.

Why are so many of the formations listed here called something different than they are in the game? Gun Tight Slots is really Gun Snugs Flip. Gun Empty Trio is really Gun 5WR Trio. Etc. Makes it hard to find some of these when I look for them in the game
