Madden 19 Money Play: Gun Trio – Steelers Out

In today’s free Madden 19 offensive tip, we are going over a money play found in the Pittsburgh Steeler playbook.

It absolutely destroys cover 3 defense which will force your opponent out of one of the most common coverages in the game.

Playbook: Pittsburgh Steelers

Formation: Gun Trio

Play: Steeler Slot Out

Setup:

1. Hot route the tight end to a streak route
2. (Optional) Block your running back

Reads: 

1. Your main read on this play is the Y/triangle receiver against cover 3 defenses.
2. Otherwise immediately look to your tight end over the middle
3. Your last read is the B/circle receiver

Overview: Cover 3 is a very popular defense, and this play absolutely shreds that coverage with very few adjustments. It kills any 3 deep shell and will force your opponent to switch their coverage up, allowing you to call other plays from this very popular formation without the defense knowing what you’re doing.

Let’s take a closer look at this play.

This is how the play should look right before we snap the ball.

Once the ball is snapped, the first thing we do is verify that our opponent is in a cover 3 defense. We can see that by 1 of the safeties rotation to the deep middle part of the field.

The cornerback on the left side of the field in the deep zone bites down on the our receiver running the out route which leaves our Y/triangle receiver running free past him.

We make the catch with no one within 10 yards of our receiver.

And we walk into the endzone for an easy touchdown.
