Playbook: Balanced
Formation: Singleback Tight Flex
Play: Mesh
Setup:
- Put A/X on a Streak
- Block the RB
Reads:
- Our hot read is an inside pass lead to either seam route against zone coverage, if the middle is vacated
- The second read will be a high low on the right side between the corner route (B/Circle) and the drag (Y/Triangle)
- I also will take a quick glance immediately upon the snap to check if our opponent is in cover 3. If they are, I will immediately look toward the right side and attempt to bomb the defense. Lead pass outside to the A/X receiver
Overview: This is a solid overall play. We have a short option on the drag, as well as a deep corner route that gets in behind any variation flat zone that the defense will be in.
Playbook: Balanced
Formation: Singleback Tight Flex
Play: Slot Corner
Setup:
- Put X/Square on a slant
- Put A/X on a flat route
- Smart route the Y/Triangle corner route
Reads:
- Our first read is the quick slant to X/Square over the middle
- The Second read is a high/low on the left side between our RB swing route and the Y/Triangle corner route
- The final read is the B/Circle post over the middle. I also sometimes low pass this (LT/L2) depending on the coverage
Overview: This play is a great addition to our arsenal, as it gives us a high low read on both sides of the field. The slant is a great option due to the flat running a clear-out on the right side and pulling the zones away, which creates a window over the middle. We also have the high low on the left side, as well as a deep post over the middle.
Playbook: Balanced
Formation: Singleback Tight Flex
Play: PA Waggle – version 1
Setup:
- Put Y/Triangle on a drag
- (Optional) Smart route the A/X WR
Reads:
- Our first and primary read is a quick throw to A/X on the smart routed corner, both against man and also any zone
- The other read I like to make on this play is the drag to Y/Triangle late over the middle. Since we have a flat route on the right side of the field, he will actually go up the field and lead block
- The final read is the X/Square deep post over the top if we get a man to man look
Overview: This is one of my favorite plays from the formation, specifically when I smart route the A/X corner route. As explained in the video, there are not many corner routes in the game that get the depth that this one does even after being smart routed, and it is such an unpredictable play because of how quickly that the cut occurs.
Playbook: Balanced
Formation: Singleback Tight Flex
Play: PA Waggle – version 2
Setup:
- Put B/Circle on a whip route
- (Optional) – Put X/Square on a smart-in route, curl, or hitch
Reads:
- Our immediate read will be the whip route in the right flats
- The primary reads on this play will be a high low read between the A/X corner route and Y/Triangle on the over route
- The X/Square deep post is our final read, which I only like to throw as an alert read against man coverage with no safety help
Overview: This version of PA Waggle allows us to better utilize the crosser route, as well as a deeper corner route. Between both of those routes, one will always be open vs zone coverage. I prefer to roll right on this play if possible, as we are flooding the right side of the field. Optionally, I break down a few other routes that I tend to place X/Square on as I am adjusting throughout the game.
Playbook: Balanced
Formation: Singleback Tight Flex
Play: HB Slip Screen
Setup: No adjustments needed
Reads:
Our main read here is the slip screen, and the only other read that I ever even consider in this play is the over route to A/X quickly. The only time I will throw this is if I see my opponent’s user dive down to take away the slip screen and notice that they leave a hole vacated over the middle of the field. It is very rare that I will throw this pass over the middle, but it is a possible option.
Overview: This slip screen is a nice wrinkle to add to this unstoppable formation and gives our opponent one more thing that they need to worry about. As I say in the video, you need to cancel the dropback by holding right trigger and wiggling the left stick left and right. This will cancel the auto dropback and allow us to be on the move while throwing it so we can avoid pressure. This play is also good to run out of the Trio motion scheme, as it takes your opponent’s eyes toward the left side of the field.
Playbook: Balanced
Formation: Singleback Tight Flex
Play: Pack Out N Ups
Setup:
- Put A/X on a streak
- Put B/Circle on a drag
- Put Y/Triangle on a slant
Reads:
- Our primary read here is the double move on the left side. Right after snapping, I glance to see if it is man coverage and if there is a single high or double high safety look overtop. If it is a cover 0/cover 1, I immediately know I am throwing the double move
- The other two reads I look to on this play are the slant(Y/Triangle) and drag(B/Circle) crossing over the middle vs man and zone
Overview: I am only calling this play when I am expecting man coverage with a cover 0/cover 1 look. If the look is correct, it is an easy 1 play TD bomb that can only be stopped In man by being user guarded. My other looks on this play are simply dump-down reads vs any other look.
Playbook: Balanced
Formation: Singleback Tight Flex
Play: HB Off Tackle
Setup:
- (Optional) You can flip this run to the left if you prefer
Overview: This is my favorite run in the game and has immediate homerun hitting potential vs passing defenses. I have noticed that flipping the run to the left produces better blocking.
Playbook: Balanced
Formation: Singleback Tight Flex
Play: HB Dive
Setup:
- (Optional) You can flip this run to the right if you prefer
Overview: The dive is a great complimentary run to the scheme. It is defaulted to the left, and I have noticed I generally receive better blocking to the left. However, the handoff is quicker to the right which may be better in a short yardage situation.
