One of the most frustrating things for an average Madden gamer to defend against in Madden 13 was the read option. There was no real way to defend it against an opponent who knew what he was doing other than to just manually go after the quarterback.
Luckily, that will no longer be the case when Madden 25 comes out. You will now have the ability to choose whether you go after the quarterback or the running back if a read option in called. The new feature is being called, “defensive keys.”
You first press LT/L2 to enter Defensive Keys
Then it depends on whether you want to attack the QB or the RB:
– Press X/Square to have the Read defender go after the Running back – The Read will crash and chase the Running back
– Press A/X to have the Read Defender go after the Quarterback – The Read will stay at home and attack the QB when he starts running
The days of calling the read option just to always keep the ball in the hands of the quarterback are over. This is another giant step forward for EA Sports in their quest for making a truly sim Madden game.
Will this new feature stop you from running the read option as much in Madden 25?
I don’t really have a big problem stopping the read option. If I think thats what im about to get, then ill go man cover 2, with one or two blitzing linebackers. The faster of the pair will be converted to a qb spy, and the other will be left to blitz, or converted to zone coverage. With teams like Washington, and Carolina dudes are always going to rack up yards with the qb if he’s not a total scrub. It’s about containment, and damage control. If I can hold you to minimal gains from the read option, you’re going to have to open up your offense and beat me another way. If you keep at it, your qb will get too beat up, and fumble the ball or get hurt. I run it sparingly, and it takes a lot of setup to get it to work. I’m successful about 30% of the time.
Madden 25 will see a whole lot more read option than in last year’s game. Finding a good read option defense will be very important this year.
iam a true WRESTLING GOD 4 LIFE,,but iam also a MADDEN GODS of DEFENCE,,which means ,i never really cared what 100plays,options,runs,or glitches my opp. used..GOD OF DEF means the hunger passion skills to ADJUST or ADAPT to the all games plays.. ps3 online ,,i used smash mouth AP 30 -40 carries,,then blitz when u see their 2nd or 3rd down % drop,,but i used wide open (3 qrt man deep) all day,, to stop the all the hail mary td plays..(have to love running da ball 20-30 times) or u wont score 10points not even on a wide open 3qt man deep with a low rank viking def…
