Gun Tight Slots

Playbook: New England Patriots

Formation: Gun Tight Slots

Play: PA Flood Shot (Version 1)

Setup:

  1. Put your Y/triangle receiver on a streak route
  2. Put your X/square receiver on an out route
  3. Put your B/circle receiver on a streak
  4. (Optional) Block the running back and motion him to the other side depending on which side you expect a blitz

Reads:

  1. Our main read on this play is the Y/triangle receiver against cover 3 defenses (lead pass to the sideline)
  2. We will also usually have our A/X tight end open
  3. If he is covered, look to playmaker the X/square receiver up field, scramble, or throw it away

Overview: This play torches cover 3 defenses, even when (and especially if) your opponent is using protect the sticks. If you know your opponent is using the protect the sticks feature, hot route your Y/triangle receiver to a fade route instead of a streak route to make the play more effective.

If your opponent catches on, you switch the routes that your Y/triangle receiver and X/square receivers are running. You’d put your X/square receiver on the streak and the Y/triangle receiver on the out route.

  2. Against cover 2 defenses, throw to your X/square receiver (Lead pass to down and to the sideline)

Overview: This play does a great job of attacking deep regardless of what coverage your opponent is in.
