How does a person come up with their online nickname? What is the meaning behind their online ID? Is it a reflection of who they really are? There are endless possibilities when it comes to choosing and creating a nickname for online gameplay. The following are just a few examples of online player IDs and their meanings (these are actual nicknames from PSN and XBL):

XMurkerX207X

Perhaps the scariest of all gamer tags are the ones where they threaten you with murder or give you the impression they are going to stab you in the neck with a rusty screwdriver. Let’s break it down section by section.

The “x” obviously means they are serious and are not to be messed with. Nobody uses the 24^th letter in the alphabet with the intention of wanting to have a long discussion about the political unrest of the Palestinian state of Israel and the potential implications of having a Jewish state. When there is an “x”in the name, it is a warning to all opponents that they mean business.

The next part is the word “murker.” This may not even be a real word (it is btw), but don’t tell this gamer either way. The word “murker” most likely comes from the word “murk” which means to defeat someone to the point that they should never show their face again (urbandictionary.com).

Finally, we are left to deal with the numbers “207.” In most cases, three numbers usually represent a hometown of the player (Reggie Bush receives a 4 cent royalty fee for using these numbers ever since he made it cool when he put them on his eye-black patches). Where is area code 207 you might ask? None other than the OG (original gangsta) state of Maine. That’s right! Mother f’ing Maine, yo!

Bottom line is do not, I repeat, DO NOT, take this gamer lightly. When someone from Maine wants to defeat you to the point of utter embarrassment while carrying the weight of every “murker” in the state, topped off with the third to last letter of the alphabet incorporated into their name, you better be on your “A” game. One last piece of advice: you better start sleeping with a nightlight and blunt object hidden under your pillow if you defeat this player.

JuGGaL0 420

Upon first glance, there isn’t much to this simple nickname. There are a few cute letters strung together followed by a three-digit number (see above example for possible meaning of three digit number). Upon further examination however, it is clearly a complex nickname.

Take the first half-the word “Juggalo.” For those who live in a cave, this refers to a follower of the inspirational musical lyrics produced by the group ICP (Insane Clown Posse). Most likely, this player lives with a close family member in the back end of a mobile housing unit. Just because this player barely qualified to attend their high school graduation does not mean they are a complete idiot. Ordinary idiots cannot talk their mom into putting a cartoon character of a man running with a hatchet on the back window of their 1987 Buick Skylark in the form of a sticker. These types of people are advanced idiots.

The next half of the epithet is the number “420.” The uneducated may view this as the area code for the tropical paradise of Hawaii, but there is a 94% chance this gamer meant it to represent that he smokes….drum roll, please-marijuana. Marijuana is the drug of choice for these players and because he has the number four-two-zero in his online nickname, he most likely smokes it whenever possible. This player may have a short-lived video game career. Eventually, they will need to pawn off their gaming system to purchase a weekend of enjoyment accompanied by hits from a methamphetamine pipe or stamps of acid.

Final note: the “o” in the nickname is actually a zero, meaning this gamer is not alone and the ever-original nickname is in use by someone else. God help us all.

GoDZ-PuRPoz

God works in mysterious ways. This player obviously had a vision of the almighty creator, and it told him to serve his holiness through the world of video games. It is not essential to spell things properly, let alone your online player ID, when serving a greater power. Saving souls and putting the letter “z” to use whenever remotely possible is the agenda of this player. If the letter “s” and the correct spelling would have been used, it would have lost all meaning and this gamer would be doomed to a life of correct grammar and be just another ordinary electronic thespian.

Just having the word of a supreme being in your nickname will give you a distinct advantage over your opponent. Let’s just hope this player does not rest their controller on top of the book known as the Bible while they are attending church. A controller soaking up all that knowledge via osmosis would render the player unstoppable and their thumbs a tool of supreme deity in the gaming world.

Many people in life need to embrace the grace of divinity. That is this gamer’s purpose. Obviously.

Singleback Bunch- Spacing: Money Play

Singleback Bunch-Spacing (Package: All WR)
1. Hot Route B/Circle to Drag
2. Hot Route A/X to Slant
3. Hot Route X/Square to Slant Out

The Singleback Bunch with the All WR package is an excellent way to get all of your playmakers on the field at once. The Spacing play is a prime example of how the Singleback Bunch can achieve this. With a few adjustments, this play can exploit man, zone, and press coverages.

Man Reads:
1. Y/Triangle on Flat
2. B/Circle on Drag
3. A/X on Slant

Your first read is the inside receiver on the bunch running the flat route (Y/Triangle). Verses man, the opposing defenders will bunch up with the receivers and cause picks between each other. This allows for your inside receiver to be wide open initially for an easy gain. Your second read is the receiver on a drag (B/Circle). He can easily get away from his man on the outside and escape out the backside of the play on this route. Your last read is the slant by the middle receiver.

Zone Reads:
1. B/Circle on Drag
2. A/X on Slant
3. X/Square on Slant out

The slant by the middle receiver will extend the zones of the backers. Just pass lead down and inside to your receiver on a drag and turn up field immediately. Your receiver on a slant will sometimes even pick up a block for you. You can also try to find the receiver on the slant or the wide out on the slant out in the voids of the zone coverage.

Man Press:
1. Y/Triangle on Flat
2. B/Circle on Drag

This setup works best when the ball is positioned on the hash marks to the side of the lone receiver. Motion the outside receiver on the bunch inside and hike the ball when he is behind the middle receiver. This should break up all press coverage. You still have your easy reads to the flat and the drag. But if you are on the hash mark to the single receiver side, your wide out will burn the press coverage. Just pass lead inside for an easy gain.

Madden 12 Tips: Using Offensive Audibles

Using audibles has always been a big part of competitive madden gaming. When used correctly, create dangerous matchups that will lead to quick touchdowns. In the video below, we demonstrate one way of using an audible to your advantage. Please note that if you abuse audibles in an abusive way, you may not be allowed to compete in “sim leagues,” but if you are planning on playing madden 12 for money or in tournaments, this is something you should use to your advantage.

In the video below, you will notice that we come out in a 5 wide receiver set so that the defense is forced to come out in a pass defense. Note: If the defense comes out in a run defense, just run one of your favorite shotgun plays. We make sure that our fastest player is in the slot position that Devin Hester is shown below. Then audible to your favorite run play. When you do this, you have a wide receiver in every skill position on the field. Now no matter what play you call, you will have a mismatch.

If your opponent comes out in a run defense, you have 5 wide receivers on the field, so you can easily pass. If your opponent comes out in a pass defense, you have Devin Hester or another fast player of your choice at running back so you can get an easy 5-10 yards on the ground.

The same concept can be applied to your madden 12 defense, but that is a lesson for another day.

Madden Online Dictionary

As many passionate madden fans know, madden gamers have their own language that they use to communicate. So at madden-school we put together a resource for people new to madden 12. We will be updating this list regularly. If you hear a phrase used by other madden gamers that isn’t on our list, leave us a comment and we will be sure to let you know what it means.

Madden Online Terms

Bandwagon Jumper – a player who only uses elite teams rather than switching around or staying with their favorite team.

Bum- Usually a player that glitches or does something that is not considered playing fair or a high level player that plays only low level players.

Bum Hunter – a player who only plays others that are a much lower level than they are in order to win more games than they otherwise would.

BNR- Bump and Run coverage

Cheese- A play or playing style that is considered unethical or not fair. It isn’t a glitch but it is frowned upon by some gamers.

Concede- If a player is losing by at least 21 at half or 17 at the beginning of the 4th quarter than they may request to concede to the other player. This will end the game and the player that conceded will recieve a loss and the other person recieves a win.

DC- When a player quits or leaves a game and the game is not recorded or both players get a loss.

DNF- Did Not Finish; The percentage of games you either quit, or got disconnected on. Friendly quits, concedes or mercy do not raise this percentage.

“Fag D”- Defense that drops more than 8 guys into coverage, usually using defensive lineman, with very little to no rush on the quarterback.

Free Wins- Players that set up two systems and play themselves on two different accounts in order to win every time. This is a much more prevalent practice on PS2 and PS3 than Xbox 360.

Freestyle Players- These players are win at all costs type players, if it is in the game they will use it. These are usually hardcore gamers.

Friendly Quit- Both players agree to quit the game and it is not counted towards your record.

Gauntlet- Tournaments between different clubs.

Glitchers- Players that will quit, leave the game, or expliot flaws in the game which leads to the game not be recorded. These users usually have a large number of wins and very small number of losses.

Gg- Good game

Gh- Good half

Mercy- If a player is winning by at least 22 at half or 17 at the beginning of the 4th quarter they may request mercy. If the other player accepts than the game will end and the player that offered the mercy recieves a win and the other recieves a loss.

Money Play- A play that if run correctly works everytime. It is a go-to play usually used when you really need a first down or a touchdown.

Nanos-Defensive plays where a player shoots through the offensive line and is not blocked usually resulting in an easy sack.

Rep- Reputation

Rocket Catch- a form of user catching that is impossible to stop if done right. Throwing the ball up high, and turning around and catching it before the CB can make a move on the ball.

Run it/re- Rematch

Skunked- When you are up by more than 21 on your opponent.

Straight/Sim Players- Also called str8, these players play the game in a way that is similiar to how NFL games are played on Sundays. They don’t glitch or cheat in any way. These are usually casual gamers.

User- to control a player (instead of letting the cpu do it for you) while they make a catch, tackle, sack, pick etc.

Advanced Madden Tips for New Football Gamers

With the uncertainty surrounding the NFL, Madden 12 will see a rush of new gamers. At madden-school, we have been advising professional and novice gamers alike for over 4 years. Every year madden changes, and madden 12 will be no different, but there are a few core principles that always set apart the elite gamers from the rest of the pack.

1. Better Team Ratings Doesn’t Equal Better Madden Team

This is a popular misconception with newer madden gamers. While teams like the Colts, Packers, Patriots, and Falcons are great teams in real life NFL, they aren’t necessarily the best madden teams. A key example of this has been the popularity of the Oakland Raiders among professional madden players. The raiders haven’t been any good since 2002, yet for the past 4 years they have been the team of choice for the madden gamers making the real money.

2. Money Plays Don’t Win Games, Schemes Win Games

As someone who has seen 20,000 new members register on our madden forums, this is something that I consider to be the most hurtful tenancy to developing successful madden players. Everyone is looking for the 1 “money play” that they can go to when they really need a first down. Money plays are great to have and every madden player worth his salt has some. What differentiates the pros from the joes is the use of those plays. Beginning and average madden gamers sometimes call the same money play 10-20 times a game. These plays may work consistently versus average competition, but once you play a veteran madden player, you won’t be able to run the same money play over and over again so it is important to develop a scheme.

3. Clock Management

One of the most overlooked Madden tips, that is useful for any madden game whether it is madden 98 or Madden 12, is clock management. If you score at the end of both halves, you will win 90% of the games you play. By scoring at the end of halves, you give yourself 2 extra possessions that your opponent doesn’t get. While it is good to score as fast as you can, it is better to be able to score at the exact second that you want to.

4. Madden Guides

Madden guides are a growing phenomenon and can be found all over the web. There are 2 problems that you will run into when purchasing a madden guide (also known as madden ebooks).

The first is buying a cheap, poorly made guide. When looking to improve your game, you might buy the cheapest product from some below average madden gamer looking to make a quick buck. Before you buy a madden 12 guide, make sure it has a few qualities. Make sure it comes with high quality videos, the website that is selling it has been around for at least 3 years, and there are active users on the website that is selling the guide.

The second big problem is buying a madden guide and then going right into a game with it. While buying a madden guide will dramatically improve your madden ability, it is not an instant winning formula. Go into practice mode and spend 30 minutes to an hour going over every play and incorporate the schemes into your offense.

Madden-School is back again for Madden 11: This is our 4th Madden season providing you tips. Madden-School has released every Madden 11 playbook on Offense. Some of the highlights for Madden 11 seem to be Green Bay, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, Houston, and New England. We will let you decide for yourself. We have uploaded all 38 offensive playbooks to our youtube channel.

From my initial impression, my guess is 3% new formations and 15% new plays. Not as much change as I would hope for, but it is better than nothing. Some new formations include Singleback Flip Trips, and Bronco Heavy. Be ready for Madden 11 the day it drops. Choose your playbook before it comes out. Back to Madden-School Tournament

Madden-School.com will be giving away $100 in cash the weekend of August 14th and 15th. The Back to Madden-School.com tournament will feature some of the top ballers from all around the country. A total of 128 gamers will be competing for the prize money (64 per system). Madden-School has always been about free Madden tips, but we are expanding into free madden tournaments with real prize money. The tournament is first come first serve.
