Now we all know that Taylor Mays will have a HUGE impact on Madden 11. But exactly what kind of impact will that be? He is a freakish athlete that can be used in many different ways like SS (his natural spot), OLB cause he has the size, or even FS cause of his speed. I would be willing to argue that we have never seen a player in Madden in that is athletic as Mays is. Somebody who is 230 pounds but still has speed around 95 is unheard of.
I can say that he will stay at SS for my D when I use the Niners, but you know there will be people that will throw him OLB and try to turbo blitz. There’s also the people who will user him at FS despite his low catch rating. There are some who believe that usering a player negates the catch rating, I for one am not one of those people. If I want to ball hawk the first 2 things I look at is speed and catching. If they are low in either of those two I will not put them at FS.
He might have the biggest impact at OLB though. If you look at the rest of the roster you will notice that the 49ers have Manny Lawson and Patrick Willis who are 2 of the fastest linebackers in all of Madden. Adding Mays to that group makes 3 linebackers towards 90 plus in speed, making them the fastest line-backing core in Madden.
The Niners were a pretty solid team in Madden 10 and they had a good amount of users, but I expect the number of times you see the Niners in next year’s game to sky rocket just because of Mays on that D. We all know speed kills, and with the addition of Taylor Mays, the Niners looks to be a top team in Madden 11.
