Madden 16 Money Play: Singleback Doubles - Z Close Corner

Playbook: Houston Texans

Formation: Singleback Doubles

Play: Z-Close Corner

Setup:

  1. Put your A/X receiver on a drag route
  2. Put your B/circle receiver on a slant route
  3. Put your running back on a wheel route

Reads Versus Man:

  1. Read the safety, the Y or triangle receiver will be open quick because of the speed burst.
  2. If the safety goes down to guard the Y or triangle receiver, hit X/square on his break.
  3. If those two routes are covered, dump it off the the A/X receiver for a solid pick up.

Reads Versus Zone

  1. Read the safety and the outside corner on the left as the X/square receiver will still get separation.
  2. Read the linebackers in the middle of the field and hit the crossing pattern.
  3. If there are no flat zones dump the ball off to the running back.

Overview: This play is both a man and zone beater using the same setup. The routes will torch man coverage because of the double move and speed burst. Also the crossing pattern will flood zone coverage. A good time to run it would be on first down, when your opponent is expecting a run because it could result in a big gain.

Let’s take a look at this play in more detail.
