WHAT???? The Raiders make a good draft choice???? NO WAY!!! Yes, the Oakland Raiders did actually do something right this offseason. The trade of Jason Campbell, who by the way is an actual QB, and other various trades really improved the Raiders by ALOT! Yes, we all know the terrible decisions Al Davis has made in the past few years, such as DHB over Crabtree, JaHackus Russel, and Ryan Leaf. Oh, sorry not Ryan Leaf, sure felt like it was the Raiders though. The Raiders’ offense is about to be for real, with Louis Murphy showing what a beast he was last year and Chaz Schillens hopefully playing without an injury. Word out of the OTAs is DHB can catch! With Campbell, the WR corps should actually be good this time around, and for those of you doubting Campbell’s prowess, just google him up. You’d be shocked on how effective he was with a seemingly incompetent coach in Zorn, and a terrible system for Campbell to be in the 1st place. The offensive line is all right, and with Darren McFadden about to get more carries than he has had in the past, the raiders ground game will be an interesting subject this season. Michael Bush is actually the better of the two backs, but knowing Al Davis, he will try and force-feed the ball to Run DMC. Now that might be a good thing, but if Oakland wants to win, they need to let Bush handle most of the carries and let McFadden be the change of pace back, which he absolutely can do and show his explosiveness. But the most important piece of the offense should be Zach Miller. Similar to how Witten is Romo’s safety net, Miller will serve the same role for Campbell whenever his WRs decide to not show up, or when the O-line wants to sit around and eat some Doritos.
The defense…..golly! If the rumors are true, Al Davis does play Madden! What a ridiculously fast defense! The various trades I mentioned also falls in the defensive category, as the Raiders made trades to receive OLB/DE Kameron Wimbley from Browns, DE Quentin Groves from Jags, and picked up John Henderson to go along with Seymour. The defensive line is packed with tons of talent, and it is up to the D-Coordinator to really use all of his guys to best bring out all of the individual talents similar to what the Giants did in the SB winning season. The LB corps should be very strong with their 1st round pick in Rolando McClain leading the way along with Thomas Howard, and what seems to be the main OLB at this point of time, Wimbley. The secondary obviously has a stud at CB with Asomugha, but Chris Johnson and Stanford Routt are…..BARF! hopefully the D-Coach actually lets Aso go to the other side of the field….Michael Huff needs to continue his progress this season and prove he can be the star safety the Raiders drafted him to be, but Tyson Branch is the gem of the safeties. The AFC West is completely up for grabs, and I can really see the Raiders pulling out their 1st division win in YEARS this season.
Prediction – 10-6 1st place in AFC West
