i am not a sim player or anything close so maybe i do not understand but it does not bother me when ppl go for it on 4th down in there on territory because if you stop them you get great field position. That is the easiest way for a game to get out of reach is to keep turning the ball over on the 20-25 yd line because no matter what i do on the drive i will get points. so if you decide to go for it on 4 and long you better know what you are doing or you might get blown out in the first half. but like i said i am not a sim player so i like blowout wins just as much as close games.

The answer to the question to start the thread is that its not SIM. To those who feel that it is or feel that its a coaching decision so be it. If you want to so call "go for it" on 4th and 8 in your own territory in a sim style game, the correct way to do it is a fake punt.

I applaud the guy who wont join leagues if he doesn't believe the rules fit his style. Most teams dont go for it on 4th down, even in their own territory, unless its 4th and short, (usually less than 2 and more likely less than 1).

Obviously if the game situation calls for it (late in the game or down by a few scores) then it makes sense. Otherwise, feeling feisty isnt really a great response. Please dont take this the wrong way but its something my wife says to justify when she does something wrong.

in my experience - madden seems to have a higher success rate in 4th downb play - and lets face it - we all know those plays that can get you 3-5 yards virtually all the time - so if you 4th and 5 or less - its a virtuall gimme that u convert - hence 4th down punt rules in SIM lgs

Disagreed on the plays that get your 3-5 yards every time no matter what.

And I vehemently disagree that it's easier to make a play work on 4th down. I feel like that's an excuse made by Madden players over the years to make themselves feel better about not making 4th down stops.

I'm with this guy. I don't go for it on 4th and long in my own territory unless it's the 4th quarter, and I'm behind.

Why? Because it's stupid, and giving away free points. But I have no issue with people who do. Free points for me. But if it's 4th and inches in my own territory, and I've had success on the ground, I'm probably going for it. I can get inches. And if I can't, then I don't deserve to win the game anyway.

I guess I don't understand the concept of Sim Ball. I don't want to be restricted to only making decisions that coaches would make on Sundays. I think that defeats the purpose of playing the game to begin with.

Yeah, using the same play over and over, exposing clear and obvious glitches, etc...is lame, but I don't want someone telling me what to call and when I can call it either.

I read the rules in most Sim leagues, and I feel like you've pretty much sucked all ofl the creativity out of the game.

Like someone else said earlier in the thread...it's not about what an NFL coach would do in a given situation, it's about what I would do.

i can understand your thinking Ash but to me sim play is about strategy and skill. Not taking advantage of an AI just to say hey i won. It's not always about winning sometimes losing in a great Defense battle is better then winning. But like i said that's just me.I play to have fun regardless of win or lose
