Welcome to the newest Madden School Forums Section!!! I would like to thank my partner - bigbudah (who has been lobbying for this section for some time) and Modrewgnu for making it happen!!!!
WHAT IS THIS SECTION ALL ABOUT???
This is a DEDICATED section to SIM MADDEN FOOTBALL... I thought it worthwhile to define the root word of SIM that is SIMULATE: to give or assume the appearance or effect of... - Therefore in our context - this section is dedicated to MADDEN PLAY that is to assume the effect of NFL Football...
DETERMINING WHAT IS SIM and WHAT IS NOT...
There is varied opinions on this topic - (i am certain there will be MANY heated discussion around it)... All we ask is that posts in this thread be DIRECTED to idea of SIM football - do your best to reference points of discussion to "what happens in NFL"... I understand that this is somewhat SUBJECTIVE - but thats the beauty in it!
RESPECT FOR ONE AND OTHER...
The SIM community in Madden football must stick together - (there is NO DOUBT - we are a minority in the opverall game) - This makes it even more important for us to make all members of the faternity feel welcome... It is enevitable there will be disagreements in this forum (which is 100% healthy) - but I ask you to TREAT EACH OTHER LIKE YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED... - it really is that simple!!!!... -
POSTS FROM FREE-STYLE PLAYERS...
If we receive TAUNTS and "off the cuff" comments - attacking what SIM play is all about (from our FREE-STYLE counterparts) - refrain from acknowledging them (besides we are all use to these BS jabs anyways!) - such posts are a reflection of the author's level of class, lack of social grace and intelligence - (sticks and stones... LOL!) Nevertheless; if a freestyle point of view weighs in on our discussion (in a thoughful / respectful way) - i would call on all the SIM members to come defend the SIM perspective!!!

this is pretty cool hopefully some some 360 members are here so i can join a league when this game comes out!!
The important things is that about sim is respect and gameplay. Repsect for others and the game of football. And gameplay to keep football pure and true. To sim player madden is more than a video game with digital me executing code. Sim play is a representation of the sport itself in video game form so u feel like ur accomplishing things u feel like ur a coach or a player. Play this video game as the creators intended it to be played and not as somethin u do because ur good at video games.
in this forum I hope we have good coversations not just about what is sim and what is not sim. Talk about football gameplanning execution and philosophies. We can do everything here lthe same way the freestyle guys do they thing. Talk about offense defense teams. Have leagues and franchises. We have a ranking system here in place to see hey who is the best sim player out there. If y'all want to make sim relevant then join up and post and partcicpate.
I wanna thank Greenerrrr for giving me a hand. As most people know I have been at this for sometime now. I have given this my all since madden 09. I also wanna thank Mod for allowing me to do this. Although I haven't had a lot of success he has let me do my thing my way with no interuptions and given me the resources to try and bring people in. I've tried money I've tried trophies and stuff. And he has always been there showing love.
Enough with the soft stuff let's get crankin let's get this movement going let's get big.
The rules of football are NOT SUBJECTIVE. Neither are the rules of physics. Therefore, NFL SIM cannot be subjective either.
I'm a SIM player by most accounts, although I despise what many have come to consider as SIM. IMO, in order to be SIM, the rules of the league must mirror the rules of the NFL as closely as possible. In 2007, I wrote a college paper in which I compared 5 sets of league and tournament rules to the NFL to compare how SIM each set of rules was:
2 SIM Leagues
2 SIM website SIM Standards
1 Tournament
NFL Digest of Rules
These SIM Standards were compared on 39 points of legality ranging from substitutions, pre-snap motion, etc... Each point was 100% legal in the NFL. I found that the website considered most SIM at the time of the study made more than half of the NFL legal tactics illegal. I also discovered that not even tournament rules were like the NFL's...
Which made me think... Can you SIMULATE the NFL without first simulating the rules from which every NFL strategy is based? The answer: NO. The rules must be the most important factor in determining whether a tactic is SIM or not. As such, approximately 90% of the 167 sets of rules were discounted for being inadequate for our study. Most SIM standards ignore the NFL rules or completely contradicted them. Only 2 of the 167 sets of rules we looked at scored above 85% when compared with the NFL. Only one set scored in the 70's... ALL OTHERS scored 65% or less.
With that said... There is no such thing as NFL SIM when the rules that govern SIM not only differ, but are expected to differ from the NFL rules.
I never published the paper, but I can make it available for anyone that wants to read it (keep in mind, it was for college and is VERY WORDY).
Later
I would love to read it - maybe send it in a word file as an attachement to my email - nathangreene2004@yahoo.ca
I would love to see how our Madden Group SIM rules would add up in your analysis - we are ratifying our rules from 2010 to 2011 on Thursday evening - neverthless - the Rules Meeting Over-view Sheet will give you a good idea...
i ask you to analyze the Madden Group's Rules (we do our best to make rules that make the gameplay as close to the NFL experience as possible) -
The link beliow is an Overview Sheet the Governing Council will use when accepting obvious carry over rules from Madden 10, adjustment to rules in Madden 10 - and the addition of rules to Madden 11 - WOULD LOVE TO SEE HOW OUR RULES ADD UP IN YOURT ANALYSYS...
note their is 2 parts to this post - Madden 10 rules changed and over in 1st section - and New Madden rules introduced in Madden 11 in the reply message (listed directly after)
Rules meeting Overview Sheet
ty for yourt post - I am intrigued by your paper... Was this a class focussing on "statistical analysis" or was it something more abstract? I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say...
GREENERRRR
i understand what he was trying to do with that...the idea of the rules is to play like the nfl. but it being a video game so things have to be tweak so they are not taken advantage of. say nano blitzing. ive seen several game with teams that have a high blitz rate (take the eagles for example) if u watch them play sometimes even 3x a game they get a clean blitzer to the qb. if u watched the game a couple years ago where the eagles sacked roethlesburger 9x in that game they had clean blitzers in what many would call a nano. rocket catch is all about physics of the video game. if in madden 08 and madden 09 it wasnt so easy to stop your wr on a dime turn him around and jump straight up then it wouldnt be a problem. now with the new ratings and height being a good thing with the physics players have some momemntum when jumping things are fixed but there is always some ways to do them. the rules get strict when ppl try to control the number of motions and number of blitzes number of press coverage stuff like that.
that being said man i love the premise of the paper you wrote and i can only imagine that grade being a solid A+.
AWESOME!!! Finally we are recognized and have a dedicated forum!
Holla to all the SIM players out there! That's what WE call football
