Where Can I get a Complete description of how to play SIM. I'd like to give it a shot. I believe I play SIM already but I heard there are certain rules when playing against SIM players online. Thanx
Each franchise has different rules. Check out the Madden Group - this is a group of Sim players that have a group of franchises all playing by a set of rules. But for example:
1) You actually punt on 4th down when you are on your own side of the field.
2) You can't run the same two plays over and over and over and over
stuff like that
I used this post in another thread but I think this outlines what Sim is all about.
Its not just same play or formation. The idea about Sim is really about strategy. It supposed to be like playing the other person. Not playing the game. If your ranked, you probably know how to "Beat" madden. All the ins and outs that can beat all the different coverages. The differences in SIM style is that, audibling down (On O or D) is usually not allowed. Playing Fag D's is strictly forbidden. That doesn't mean you can't be creative in coverage but you its supposed to be like football. I mean how man times do you see a team drop 3 DL's in coverage?
On offense, you will see variety. No Snugs all day long, Trips, Strong close, etc. Not that you can't use those formations. You use them all. You play situational football. You punt. You kick field goals. You play man and zone and use your defensive formations as well. you use the tools that are available but in moderation. Your not showing blitz every down and calling Quarter D against 2 wide on 1st down. You match up against personnel unless the situation really doesnt call for it. No huddle is also limited. We know some teams run it in the NFL but those teams also dont run it all game long.
Thats the difference in Sim/Straight play. In truth its about respect. I dont mean any disrepect to you, but most rankers usually have no respect for their opponent. They will just pour it on and play the same D and run the same 4 plays all game long. I salute them for mastering the game. They shelled out 59 bucks on the game. I just dont see the enjoyment in playing a game and calling the same thing over and over again. Thats why the Sim style always intrigued me.
What you may also find is that many of the people in the Sim Style are older. I myself am 37. I cant really waste my time for an hour if I have someone crappy to play. just being honest.
So good luck and enjoy your games brother.
Hello all forum members, I'm only new here, I'm not sure if "Sim???" is the right forum category to post this, I am Pete from New Zealand.
sim is a combination of things. its not only rules but how u play madden. anyone can play by rules but still wont be considered sim. being a sim baller is about playing the game deeper than what the programmers wanted it to be played. its about taking on your favorite teams personality and favorite coach and player personality and playing like them.
I think I have found the right way to play Madden...now I need to find a sim franchise.
Sim play and sim league rules r totally different IMO...the rules r too ridiculous bc they're trying to keep idiots from ruining their game which I totally agree with...but the fact still remains that short of glitching,RCing, and things of this nature all other aspects r simply making it more unrealistic..yeah the games will be closer, with these rules ur forced to make decisions based on their rules and not football knowledge or experience...I believe in what theyre doin with sim leagues but the more ive looked at em the more I laugh...ok no nanos, RCing, glitching, but im gonna audible at will bc this is real football...im gonna motion WRs bc this is real football...if its 4th and 1 and ive got "All Day" at HB, yeah im goin for it idc where im at on the field, why should I get in trouble for that..? just my opinion, but im what I would consider a "Sim style player" bc I play straight up football with no bs thrown in but with the rules im seein in most sim leagues just tells me that its for ppl needing to be in control and unable to take control...bc its more like real football than glitching I agree, but its far from being football when u take away basic essentials of the game...
agree with u on what sim is...so why make rules that take away from ur ability to play this way? tell me I cant cheat, but if u tell me I cant play football the way ive been taught to play my entire life and watched it be played my entire life simply bc ur afraid of a blowout...the only rule should be no cheating(I need not specify i should think), bc everything else isnt and shouldnt be in a control freaks hands to decide... its in the guy whos controling the team playin the game
Just what I think, cause I was lookin into it until it became clear that this is simply the opposite of glitching..so I believe a good game of madden sits right in between these two, ill call it the "two guys that love football so were gonna play a good game" style and its gonna be great haha
Its not about control. Its really about respecting the game and your opponent. Its really trying to Simulate what you see on Sundays. Do you often see teams go for it on 4th and 6 on their on 20 yard line? NO. You wont likely see it on 4th and 1 unless your near midfield. Many of the rules in sim leagues allow for this situation. Or you are allowed to go for it via fake punt.
Truthfully, sim style isnt completely about winning. Obviously you want to win, but you want to win the right way. Punting, kicking field goals. Playing strong situational football. its not using the same 4 plays all game long. You mix it up on both offense and defense.
I guess what bugs me about sim is the idea that there is a "right" way to play a video game. I just can't understand that concept. I punt, kick field goals, and use nearly my entire playbook when necessary but I'm not a traditional sim player by any means. I don't think I play the game "wrong" because I find ways to get to the QB with 3 rushers, or because I run snugs quite a bit until they show me they can stop it.
I understand the idea of respecting your opponent. I just personally believe nothing in this game on offense or defense is unbeatable, so it's their job to adjust to what I'm doing (just as I'm adjusting to what they're doing), and if they don't...well then that's unfortunate.
