Default Turning the Redskins into a top 5 defense

What? The Redskins? A top 5 defense?

    Yes. Yes. Yes.

First time poster, long time reader.

As one of the biggest Redskins fans, to walk the Earth, and a Madden player, every year I have the same problem.

The Redskins suck in real life, and the Redskins suck in Madden.

Well, I cannot control the team in real life, but I can control the team I love, and the only team I will EVER play with.

It starts with the defense, and if you make the following adjustments to the updated roster, then you, just like me, will have one of the best defensive squads in Madden 2012.

RE: Orakpo is a 91 at OLB, but a 99 at RE. He is our highest ranked player in the game that way, and is a blitzer and run stopper, I don’t like him for coverage at LB at all, and you will notice he gets past lineman very well and can get a lot of sacks. I have Lorenzo Alexander backing him up, and Carikker at #3. You will see Alexander has good ratings at every LB and DE position, and I take advantage of that, making him the #2 on all those positions.

LE: Kerrigan is an 85 at OLB, but he is a 91 at LE. He actually has a 94 at RE, but Orakpo is there, so I put #91 at LE, even though its 3 points less, he is an excellent pass rusher for the left side. I use Alexander and Carikker as backups.

DT: Cofield is the #1 tackle, and I use Bowen at #2, with Carriker and Golston # and #4 respectively.

ROLB: I rarely use a ROLB, but when I do, Rocky McIntosh gets the start. He is not the best rated player at this position, not even the 5th, but speed wise, he is the fastest, but realistically sees the field 4 times a game on my set up. I use Alexander as the backup here, and all LB positions, but he ranks a 80 here as a ROLB, against Rockys 71, so you could in theory start Alexander, you would lose a lot of speed, but gain 9 position points.

MLB: London Fletcher obviously as a 91. and one of our best players starts here. Perry Riley gets the 2nd position, it was good to see him improve both in real life, and on the weekly roster update. Alexander the #3, as mentioned thrice already.

LOLB: Keyron Fox, former Steeler, is very good at this position. He scores a 74, but again, speed wise, he is quick. You could start Alexander here, he ranks a 76 (better than Fox) but I use him as a back up.

CB: I use the best rankings, but you have to promote Buchanon to #3, as he is on the bench for injury. Josh Wilson and D. Hall are 83 and 85 respectiavly, and in my defense, get a lot of INTS because of pressure applied up front.

SS: Landry of course with Reed and Gomes as backups. Gomes improves every week and is a 70 now at both safety positions.

FS: Atogwe: Ranked 90 just like Landry, and backed up the same with Reed and Gomes.

Nothing drastic here, just a few small roster changes and a good base defense, and your playing with a top 5 defense on Madden 2012.

And with Rex Grossman as your starter, you need a good defense!

As said above with good user skills they can and are a sleeper. I have always looked at then as sleeper defense and offense. Rex is good for short routes. And the receivers have speed. But being a cowboys fan I could never pull myself to play with them unless was trying to win with all 32 teams.

The Redskins defense as it is right now is probably top 5 in the game. It's their offense that holds them back.

Actually, here's my top 5 defenses in Madden in no particular order

    BAL
    SEA
    SF
    HOU
    NYG

Their secondary is just awful in this game. All the other teams are pretty well balanced at every position, including the secondary.

That is a tough question, but GB, Pitt and Cincy are also I think just as good as those top 5 you mentioned.

Skill is always a factor, but a good Madden player needs a good game plan, a team to execute it, skill all the way around, and luck.

Im 79-110 in Madden 12. I have not picked up the sticks since Madden 2009 and when I was last playing, it was on PS3.

I think for taking almost a 3 year break, switching gaming consoles (Controller switch is the real issue) and playing exclusively with the Washington Redskins this record isnt that bad.

The Redskins offense can be used effectively also. Rex is Rex, so you have to account for that, but the TE's are solid (Davis and Cooley) Moss, Gaffney, Armstrong, Stallworth, Hankerson and Banks are all 90 plus on speed (Gaffney excluded at 86) and Roy Helu is a fast RB that when he gets in the open field can be dangerous.

Overall the team has a 76 overall rating, but like all teams, can be effective with a good player behind the sticks. I just think the Redskins play much better than a 76.
