The Falcons will have one of the best offenses in the NFL, with Matt Ryan coming into his 3rd year in the league, and Michael Turner trying to prove himself as an elite RB after coming off an injury plagued season where he still grabbed 10 TDs despite not being able to play in all games. Ryan had a mediocre season last year, but that can be summed up to a sophomore slump and injuries. He will have Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, Tony Gonzalez. Harry Douglas, and even Jerious Norwood as his offensive weapons. In 2008, where the Falcons went 11-5, they had a tremendous offense, with Ryan getting 3k passing yards, Turner getting 370+ carries for near 1700 yards, and Roddy White/Gonzo grabbing 1k receiving yards each. This season should see the same results as the 2008 season, so there should be no worries for the Falcons, considering they are in a division not noted for their defensive units.
However, the Falcons had an abysmal defense last season, and despite an addition to their secondary in Dunta Robinson, the Falcons still have a pretty average defensive unit. Curtis Lofton will have pressure on him to lead the LB corps to a better run stopping defense, but the Falcons don’t really have a lot of talent LB-wise. The defensive line is highlighted by All Pro DE John Abraham, who did not have a spectacular year last season due to not having another remotely sufficient DE to go along with him. This season seems to be the same as last year for Abraham until someone steps up on the D-line. The safeties…..nonexistent. The Falcons will depend hugely on their offensive firepower, and hope to get alot of turnovers on a now ‘bend but don’t break’ defense.
Prediction – I don’t forsee alot of offensive problems for the Falcons, and I don’t believe in the hype that Ryan has all of a sudden regressed. The weakness of the Falcons will be their downside, as again they are in the NFC South, home of a top passing offense in the Saints and a top rushing offense in the Panthers.
9-7 2nd place in NFC South, just missing out on the Wildcard

9-7?!? Are u out of your mind? First off, our secondary actually progressed during the latter parts of the season. And we were below .500 and had a 3-0 finish on the season. Brent Grimes is underrated, tied for 3rd in the league for picks with 6…the same amount as your beloved Darrell Revis (no disrespect to Mr. Revis). And did u see how well we played the Saints TWICE last year? Sure enough, there are still questions about our secondary and our D-Line, but there is no way in NFL hell that we win less than 10 games this season.
Oh yeah, the only reason we were 9-7 last season was because of injuries to Matt Ryan and others. And even then we had a winning record during a mediocre season…9-7, HA!
errr im not a jets fan, but i just dont see how the falcons can get 10 wins this season, their schedule isnt exactly easy and divisional games can go either way
9-7 is about right, with 8-8 being the worst and 11-5 the best for this team IMO
and all of the secondary people u mentioned…..theyre still young and inexperiencec
Dude, you and whoever wrote this spread know nothing about football (with all due respect). Take a look at last season. Matt Ryan sat out two games. Chris Redman started them. We went 0-2 during that time. You and I both know that had Matt Ryan played both those games, we would've at LEAST been 10-6 after the season. Injury was the only reason we missed the playoffs. You know it, and I know it. And call him young and inexperienced if you like, but if a guy is snagging 6 picks in a season, I want him on my team. He'll only get better and he aint too inexperienced goin into his 3rd season. 66 tackles and 6 picks? You do the math…I guess your gonna say Dunta Robinson is inexperienced too huh?
well of course you're going to say falcons will have a great season thats what all falcons fans will say lol being a fan of a team doesnt mean you can spew all kinds of predictions and opinions and call em concrete facts when the fact of the matter if its the NFL, there are no easy wins unless u play in the NFC West….if you would have read my article i said i wouldnt be surprised if they went 10-6 or even 11-5 if things fall their way, but to say they will absolutely not fail is just wishful thinking, what if turner and ryan get injured again? what if dunta and grimes get injured? don't take things so literal just because you are a fan of the team
It has nothing to do with being a fan. These are simply facts, Ton. People just dont give us the respect we deserve. I saw what you posted, but I still am convinced that there is no possible way that we will be 9-7 again this year. 10-6 or 11-5 or even 12-4 is more like it. And I aint even tryna think about injuries even though I know they happen. But I believe that we will remain healthy this season. Playoffs, here we come.
Great prediction…. The defense looks terrible!
Number one seed. Sure, early exit, but c'mon. 9 wins?
